They're directly antagonizing Russia, after probably killing some of their troops, while bombing a government that they back.adwinistrator wrote:Tillerson: "Russia has failed on it's responsibility to get rid of Syria's chemical weapons. Tillerson: High confidence that CW dropped by aircraft by Assad's forces. High confidence it was Sarin nerve gas.

They notified the Russians before the strike, they cleared out in advance. It's all a PR stunt guys, I know you want it to be WWIII, but it isn't.GrumpyCatFace wrote:They're directly antagonizing Russia, after probably killing some of their troops, while bombing a government that they back.adwinistrator wrote:Tillerson: "Russia has failed on it's responsibility to get rid of Syria's chemical weapons. Re: Meanwhile in Iraq & Syria
Wasn't our unspoken Syria policy just to condemn the Russian for bombing Syria while secretly being happy that our hands were clean? To his credit, Obama managed to keep us out of this conflict, which sort of redeems the fact that he almost got us more involved multiple times (that stupid red line fiasco). The moderate rebels do not exist. Russia is willing to do the heavy lifting. If we really want to get cynical here, Syria does not have very much natural resources. What possible good would come out of us getting sucked into another brutal sectarian bloodbath in a faraway country? Why are there people in Washington still acting like there is a good alternative to Assad? Maybe in 5-10 years they can come to some sort of arrangement where Assad steps down, but as it stands Assad's finger is in the ISIS dyke. If he gets removed, there will probably be an even more seismic shift in the ethnic tectonic plates. Lebanon will probably have another civil war, Iraq's violence will increase, and the gulf states an Iran will add even more gas to their proxy war fires. Europe will probably get another massive wave of immigrants too. Some of this is inevitable either way, but with Assad gone things will go from bad to worse. Sometimes you gotta let the shitbags stay in power, because one shitbag is better turning the Levant into an anarchic killing field.
