I mean, the majority of Aussies must approve of the government - they keep electing despots.

I don't approve of my government. I don't want the likes of Pelosi and McConnel, but I'm stuck with them. Hell, I can't even get a single SCOTUS Justice that passes muster for me. I'm supposed to be in love with Justice Pabst, ACB and Gorsuch, but I'm supposed to be in love with them because Orange Man nominated them.

I have no doubt that the Oligarchs watch Australia as a test run for the US.

You don't approve but the majority of Americans do. Most people want big nanny - always have and always will - most people are not capable of living on their own. Liberty and individualism is done for until space opens up (if FTL is even possible).

Like George said - the future is a giant boot stomping you in the face.

Australia has mandatory voting and voting over the internet.

History has proven that more access to voting results in less Liberty.

Seems like a conundrum, but that's what happens.

Founding Fathers restricted voting for a reason.
Asking low-info, lazy, envious people what they want is only gonna lead to one thing.

"We want your stuff, for free. Also, kill all our enemies and keep us safe"

/shrug
"Hey varmints, don't mess with a guy that's riding a buffalo"

Canadians would throw them back over the border, Aussies too

you have to understand where the culture comes from here

it's 19th century, British Victorian, Missionary Impulse, Progressivsm

Canada & Australia are reactionary to American freedom, they fear & loathe it, deep down in the DNA
