Ask the rich assholes on Martha's Vineyard, I reckon.
We should tax them so hard that they can no longer afford to live better than us?
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

How long a period of waiting to be permanently underwater is acceptable?
Your lifetime or longer?
Ain't going to happen in the foreseeable future, Al Gore is a charlatan with beachfront property in areas he claimed would be underwater already. If you were smart, you would disavow him.
He was wrong 20 years ago. We are better informed now.
He is wrong now. You are not that much better informed, the Climate Change Doomsday Crowd simply moved the predictions of doom a little into the future, like William Miller himself. You fucking religious fanatics, enjoy your Great Disappointment, clowns.

What if it's already too late to stop global warming?
Will knowing that help convince people to try to mitigate the consequences?

If it's too late then you don't need a giant government power grab to stop it, because that won't stop it and there is no upside.

If it's too late, that will convince people even less, that's why you Climate Doomsday faggots keep punting 12 years into the future every time your insane predictions fail to come to pass. If it's just far away enough to "do something" if government takes over the economy, but not far away enough that people don't care and didn't give enough power to the government, while not being too soon because then people would give up because the government couldn't do anything, then it is the perfect length of time to attempt to con the rubes into believing your bullshit and convince them to go along with the big government power grab.

A failed attempt at it. William Miller's Ghost keeps on punting after being shown to be full of shit, hoping to con enough of the rubes "next time gadget".

Keep on trying Doctor Claw, eventually you'll get that Inspector Gadget.

Somehow, I don't think that is what Al Gore meant.

It's already too late to stop climate change. The effects are all around us. Flooding from freak rains becoming more common. Glaciers disappearing. Increased wildfires. Barrier reef dying off. Storm intensity increasing. Record temperatures year on year.
We could stick our heads in the sand and hope it doesn't affect us personally or we could look for ways to slow it and mitigate the consequences.
Most of the world gets this. The US just associates it with the big red scare, the fossil fuel lobby funds dubious science to pour scorn on it and coerces its bought and paid for President into ranting about a Chinese hoax.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

If it's too late, then no need for big government power grab. Find a better way to mitigate the consequences or shut the fuck up.
