For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

Its origin is disputed. Most say Mark Twain but it's not been verified. I think it was a Portuguese writer by the name José Maria de Eça de Queiroz but that doesn't look as good on a bumper sticker.Speaker to Animals wrote:Montegriffo wrote:Mark Twain.DrYouth wrote: Is this yours Hastur or did you crib it from somewhere... I think it's actually the case of people in the middle or slightly to the right of the normal distribution that fall for stuff like this. It has more to do with a hyper-active intellect that is not very well grounded, stemming from an intense desire to be the equal of great minds. People like that tend to fall for stuff like new atheism or flat eartherism. It's always something that promises to make them feel smarter and intellectually elite.
They are usually people who are not really low IQ, but who didn't attain the education level they would want. This stuff comes out of a place of intellectual insecurity. They are basically the vegans of intellectualism.

Outside of getting an IQ test, how are people to tell they're intelligent though?Speaker to Animals wrote:DBTrek wrote:The shape of the Earth is disputed.Hastur wrote: Its origin is disputed.

I mean you've got some grounding philosophy, but most people don't. There were plenty of intelligent people around before logic was stamped out into the form we have now. I mean, even if a person has a high IQ, they can consistently put out bad arguments. Is logic really an intuitive thing?
Here's one definition of intelligence: the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills.

Well, statistically, you know that the vast majority of people you see each day are clustered around the mean. It's sort of the take-away from the concept of a normal distribution..

What I mean is, sure people could be intelligent, but are they putting out quality theories?
