I can’t argue with that. I regularly make ‘leaps of faith’, and grant myself a Great Purpose in raising my kids. But for external moral authority, I look no further than myself.Haumana wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 1:50 pmYou have a faith structure. You seem to have not chased your beliefs out far enough yet if you are making statements like that. You are not special. All humans have a leap of faith somewhere in their beliefs.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 1:42 pm
I think it’s fair to make the claim that the weak-minded among us require a faith structure, in order to make it through life. That’s not to say that the strong-willed might not choose to do the same - only that the weak absolutely require it.

That's a strange way to say "I can't explain how religious people out-produce, out-think, and out-evolve atheists every time, but I'm still convinced atheists are smarter because like ants, they just believe in the now".SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:43 pmVery defensive response, and lacking in reading comprehension. /shrug

I agreeXenophon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 1:50 pmIn my experience, it isn't the weak-willed person who clings to religion. In order to be an adherent of historical Christian orthodoxy, you have to be able to weather the never-ending onslaught of an entire cultural apparatus telling you that there is no God, from age 5 to death. To do this with any effectiveness, you have to have some level of knowledge of apologetics and be able to internally make a case for your worldview, at the very least. Otherwise, you're not a religious person.
From what I have seen, it is the weak-willed who consume to excess and indulge in every manner of godless activity. The strong-willed, disciplined man doesn't find himself chopping off his dick to fit in with society.

Again, not the point that I was making, or one that I’d really want to argue, but Jesus appreciates you standing up for him, I’m sure.DBTrek wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:45 pmThat's a strange way to say "I can't explain how religious people out-produce, out-think, and out-evolve atheists every time, but I'm still convinced atheists are smarter because like ants, they just believe in the now".SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:43 pmVery defensive response, and lacking in reading comprehension. /shrug

Just trying to get you to question the assumption that athiests are the stronger-willed with stronger-intellects of the two.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:48 pmAgain, not the point that I was making, or one that I’d really want to argue, but Jesus appreciates you standing up for him, I’m sure.
Look at what the faithful have to endure to believe.
Look at what the faithful have built and conceived.
Look at the atheist world.
What's their struggle?
What have they done?
Do you believe atheists are smarter and strong because of a long fact-sheet of their accomplishments and history ... or have you simply been taught to believe religious people are stupid and fearful?

This is either your third straw man post, or you’re completely ignoring what I posted. I generally expect better from you.DBTrek wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:54 pmJust trying to get you to question the assumption that athiests are the stronger-willed with stronger-intellects of the two.SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:48 pmAgain, not the point that I was making, or one that I’d really want to argue, but Jesus appreciates you standing up for him, I’m sure.

I believe DB has posted that he’s a Christian in the past, but it’s an easy enough assumption. One doesn’t often see aggressive defense of religion from Jews, and we don’t seem to have any Muslim posters.Haumana wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:52 pmWhy Jesus?SuburbanFarmer wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 2:48 pm
