Cultural preservation is total hogwash. Even if you could somehow trap culture in amber, and keep it pristine, who would want to? Nothing thrives in a cloister... adapt or die, it is the rule and always has been.
Western civilization has thrived precisely because it is open and adaptable, and as such, can survive what ever the backwards Islamist lunatics can dish out, and it can do so without tossing refugees in camps or whatever other cowardly proposal is on the table.

Wasnt even talking about Brexit, but ok we can add that on too. Churchill's downfall was the vision thing. He was old, tired of fighting and he knew Europe was too, but time to wake up assholes. You're at war and you need ro fight back, save your countries so in 70 years your countrymen can dismantle your grandiose, hairbrained ideas.BjornP wrote:Churchill? That thing several countries rejected was precisely Churchill's vision of Europe:clubgop wrote:No, it's not.TheReal_ND wrote:Alright man. We'll play it your way. Mark my words this way lays doom.
I don't like it but maybe it's the only way.
We have. Had several elections in different countries about it. Was rejected.
Yes it does. Especially for those that support it.
Nope, fuck that.

Seems like the US is really losing Turkey, and Turkey is moving to the Russia-Iran axis.
Also, Turkish officers that have served in NATO headquarters and other positions outside Turkey are called back, and fired and even imprisoned. Seems that Erdogan has absolutely no trust in the US and the Western Alliance.
Some have even looked for asylum as Erdogans purges go forward.
So the US is out of the loop.
Another victory for Putin? Assad sure is happy...

The US was also shut out of negotiations between Russian officials and Syrian rebel factions hosted by Turkish officials in Ankara earlier this month. Those talks ultimately led to a fragile cease-fire and evacuation deal in Syria's largest city, Aleppo, where fighting intensified in recent weeks.

I have to agree that the US foreign policy is aimless now, even if it's the lame-duck period, and the position especially in the Middle East is... I don't know, being clueless around frustrated and disenchanted allies that simply go their own way (usually in different directions). If things go like this, the US will end up with having one ally in the Middle East: Israel. And then naturally it's Israel calling the shots.Okeefenokee wrote:Obama really sucks at his job. Wonder what Trump will do with this trainwreck.
