It was bush bashing all day long when it opened up.

The ratio of users to posts changed significantly.

By the end the vast majority of posts were coming from far fewer users than was the case in say 2012.

I think they don’t donate to shit, so whether they like your free content or not is irrelevant. They feel entitled to free HH and they’ll take it until they’re bored of it or it costs a nickel. If you say something they don’t like they’ll be the first to publicly crucify you and try to end the livelihood they never helped sustain.

No one wants to spend all their time defending against stuff they don't even support. You really expect Dan to suffer for a racists, a sexist and a troll? And I certainly don't mean to imply that I was not guilty. I am certain my "words per post" ratio in 2016 was 10% of what it was in 2008.

Heck Dan hasn't done Common Sense in how long? Why SHOULD he have kept paying bandwidth bills on the forum?

The DCF's time had past. Dan never posted there any more, why should he spend $$$ on it? Time to cut losses on an investment that was no longer paying dividends.

Short term gains that have translated into a long term plummet of over 2500 places in the web rankings. Second link shows he’s appearing less frequently in web searches.

Maybe it was a genius move, but internet metrics suggest the opposite. His site is less visible. Fewer people are looking for him.
