There is this weird Trump effect that I've noticed. That man could say anything, do anything, and people would believe he's playing 5d chess game and really, you should just give him a chance and see that his real plan will be revealed later on. They have a sort of religious faith in his ability to lead.

Then when one points out that this is the second time he's come out against something like due process before taking away gun rights:

First time:

Second Time
http://insider.foxnews.com/2018/03/01/t ... -amendment

Crazy huh? A dirty liberal like me is defending gun rights whereas die hard conservatives are relatively silent about what Trump has said in the past and what he has said again. Taking away 2nd amendment rights without due process is bullshit. I don't care if you're Democrat or Republican. I don't care if you're Libertarian or Green party.

Fuck any politician who says it. (and because I know someone is going to bring up Obama, I'll bring him up first) Guess what? Obama agrees with Trump on this!

How do we know what is objectively correct? "Right"

Well, the only place I can find objectively right is sound logic. And logic has very clear rules. If someone disagrees with me, even when I'm couched in sound logic (has to be correct) then they are wrong, and I am right. No matter how much they doth protest.

I, of course, don't always meet that standard, but that's how I try to tell what's correct and incorrect. Logic really is our only way to get at objective truth, rather than going from sphere to sphere, from subjective truth to subjective truth.

I really like doing this though, tell someone to prove anything. Tell them that they have to put it to the highest standard, as if they would lose something if they were incorrect, so they can't afford to be incorrect. What would they truly know then? What would any of us truly know then?

Politicians are like diapers, they should be changed regularly and for the same reason.

Nearly all the reasons those Chinese party delegates gave, and what the media is reporting as the view among many Chinese, is that it will lead to stability. All the time, they kept repeating that as the main quality and primary reason to give a politician a lifelong term in office.

I am reminded of that documentary someone here once posted, the long BBC one: "Hyper-Normalisation". How the banking industry's need for stability, and its increasingly close ties to politics, has lead to security, safety and "stability" becoming the obsession of the last couple decades. How little it takes for people to panic about anything, the need for "safe spaces". It's a perfect recipe for tyranny.

I guess I was surprised lifelong leadership wasn't alrewady a thing. Mandate of Heaven and all that. It's a very Chinese way of government.

They instituted term limits after Mao, and the trial and his wife.

You can see why they hate us by all the posturing in the western world about how China should rule itself. Like our values are the default political values and China needs to get with the program.
