The only real world difference is the five round magazine limit, but honestly, I don't even care anymore, that would have bugged me when I was 17 and a buck private, but at this point, automatic rifles hold no mystery nor particular cache, I don't even want one, there's other things I'd rather blow my money on now.

The shotgun is cheap, the 870 is the value pick, jack of all trades, and way less paper work, and I don't really have any use for an AR, and since I had to carry one around like a ball and chain for all those years, I have no interest neither, AR15, that feels like work, 870 pump, that's like vacation.

I'm old school, I don't like 5-5-6, weaned on 7-6-2, new rifle, seemed like a big downgrade. The only AR I ever really liked, was the M16A1, 1969 Vietnam mod, but just for the aesthetic.

Both 5.56x45mm and 7.62x51mm are technically NATO rounds, but NATO didn't switch to 5.56x45mm for service rifles all at once, we were still using FN FAL's when I joined, I can't remember, but I think it was like 1986 or around then, before I saw my first Canadian issue AR, and it still took a few years before we completely switched over to them.

See, the US switched to M16 and 5-5-6, in like 1964, but it had a terrible reputation from Vietnam, the first M16's were too finicky, they jammed constantly, had to be squeaky clean or they ground to a halt, the M16A1 started to sort out a lot of the early teething problems, but it still wasn't great, so NATO actually wanted no part of 5-5-6 for the longest time, and it wasn't until the M16A2 in 1983, that M16 shook its rep for being a PoS.

There's footage of Americans having to take their M16's apart in Vietnam, strip them down to try to fix them, in peices laid out on a poncho, in the middle of fire fights, you're about to be overrun, and you literally cannot get your M16 to work to save your life, so really, it was the Americans themselves who cursed their own rifle, the rest of NATO just took their word for it.

M16A2 HBAR USMC version circa 1983, that was the first of the good AR's, all the AR's you use now, that's their progenitor.

That's the point, it doesn't matter how many protections you put into place, people will always find a way around it if they want to.

Strangely enough, this philosophy never seems to extend to immigration laws or walls. Must be totally different I guess.
