Re: Venezuela news
It is something I've heard people like David Harvey and Yannis Varoufakis say. I don't think it is a stretch to call either of them commies.

Re: Venezuela news
In my opinion, communism is the ultimate end goal of civilization. Just to do it on a large scale you need to be technologically advance enough to have produce more resources in a year than a civilization is realistically able to consume. This means robotics, recycling, and interplanetary travel (mine asteroids, comets, and other planets/moons). Until we reach that technological point regulated capitalism is the best and most ethical approach to an economy.
Without that technological ability communism just doesn't scale well because there is less accountability at larger scales meaning more people will be taking advantage of the system in one way or another. So you essentially have to be able to remove the need for accountability for it to work.

I'm not sure there is any limit to what a civilization capable of interplanetary travel is realistically able to consume.

I often hear ridiculous atheists decry all the violence caused by religions. In truth, religions caused very little violence. Most warfare until the modern period was over resources and land. But when you get to the modern period, the people who caused the most damage were philosophers. Philosophy can kill lots of people, and communism is exhibit A.

195,035,000 deaths in the name of religion
vs
Great Leap Forward, Stalin, WW1+2?
This is going to go off the rails quickly, I'm sure, but the comparison is valid. it's not as clear cut as you think.

Re: Venezuela news
Like I said before in another thread, we already know what will happen. Philosophy is the big dangerous game, not economics or religion or anything else. At least not those things directly.
We saw in the twentieth century that when industrialization solved many of the scarcity problems that plagued humanity for all history, we ramped up the conflicts. We fight over ideas. That trend is likely to continue.
People won't be fighting over resources in the future if we ever get off this planet. Resources are boundless out there. People will fight over the future of humanity. Things like transhumanism versus longevity and augmentation will be the war. The stuff we fight over today will be as quaint as fighting over Helen of Troy.

I appreciate you taking the time to consider my point. That was a thoughtful and concise rebuttal.Speaker to Animals wrote:GrumpyCatFace wrote:Using the loosest possible definitions..Speaker to Animals wrote:And another thing.. the actual communists, if they ever took over, would line up these millennial antifa fags probably first and exterminate them.

Re: Venezuela news
Nope, I guess that matter is settled now. Certainly, the amount of religious violence in world history is completely overshadowed by the vast majority of philosophical violence. Not even remotely close, by any means.Speaker to Animals wrote:Sure, clown.

Just one question tho... Define the effective difference between religion and philosophy in governance? Thx.
