Other states are going to follow suit.
A lot of people have the misconception that teachers are all part of actual unions, and don't know the difference between unions/collective bargaining vs. simply teacher associations. Most states don't have teachers with collective bargaining.

Of course teachers want theirs. Everyone has to pay rent, car, insurance, utilities, etc. etc. You need money. No shit, right...so go get yours.

Yep, shit rolls downhill; and you best believe the school union is getting theirs. Bet dat.PartyOf5 wrote:WV teachers get a 5% raise, along with all other state workers getting the same. I read that as, the teachers got a raise, and we're giving ourselves one as well.
So where will the additional 5% ($20 million) come from? According to lawmakers, it's not coming from increased taxes. Instead, the money will come from cutting in other areas of the state budget, like general services and Medicaid. Be on the lookout for Dems and Medicaid recipients in WV to begin making noise about cuts to that as soon as this takes effect. Teachers won't care, because they got theirs.

Not a single one of them mentioned the cost of living for the state, what the average income is for the state, or what the teachers other benefits (health care, pension) are that make up their compensation package. It's all narrative based information like "OMGZ, they make half what teachers in California make!" .
Every article that I read states that its illegal for teachers to strike and to have unions.

Some states (such as Oklahoma) has banned teacher unions and they tend to also be the places where they have shiity teachers and education.GloryofGreece wrote:https://twitter.com/mattdpearce/status/ ... 8252755968

Some nations (such as the USA) have lots of teachers unions, and also manage to pay top dollar per student on education while returning shitty results.Penner wrote:

Some nations have lots of shitty people that raise (or neglect) shitty raised teens thus resulting in academic stagnation or degradation.DBTrek wrote:Some nations (such as the USA) have lots of teachers unions, and also manage to pay top dollar per student on education while returning shitty results.Penner wrote:

Who would of thought money doesn't solve all cultural/social problems...who the fuck would have thought.

Could be that the USA raises especially bad teens.
If so, no amount of additional funds, smaller classrooms, decreased workload, or new facilities will make up the difference, so the teacher’s unions can put their greed and their mouths in park, right?
But we both know that’s not going to happen. They’ll just ignore the $14-16k per student we already spend for truly dismal academic results, and ask for more money anyway.

No, actually having less students in the classroom allows the teacher to teach and interact with the students more constructively thus possibly leading to more understanding...again who would have thought.

When faced with irrefutable facts, retreat to a safe talking point.
Awesome.
Since teacher to student ratio is supreme I move we abolish all public schools in favor of home schooling - for the children of course. I was content to simply abolish the union, but if teacher to student ratio is the secret, then we can just dismantle the whole system, save astronomical amounts of money, and finally see our international test scores climb.

Your the one making strawmans and putting words in my posts. You want the answer you want. You like most are not inerested in conversation or dialogue. You want to "WIN"! and get steam off your chest I guess.
Your statements are a little hyperbolic, right? Just a bit..."since you said this then certainly you mean we should just have home schooling" etc. etc.
In case wondering (but your not) our nation's education issues are not monolithic or caused by one thing. Its a multifaceted problem. With tons of variables and lots of things at play. Funding isn't the issue or a primary issue. The culture of the kids (our nation overall), the home life of the kids, the class sizes, the amount of teachers, and building school by school administration are just a few of the actual problems when you talk about education.
