But you're never going to do it, so it's all talk, NATO is an American Military Industrial Complex entrenched interest, it's pork in the districts, it's not Latvia forcing Americans to project power accross the north Atlantic, anymore than Latvia is forcing Americans to project power worldwide, it's the Pentagon, it's the Defense Contractors, it's Wall Street, it's the voters who demand their defense pork and associated military bases, has nothing to do with the Latvians, America would sell the Latvians down the river in a heartbeat, as if you would really go to war with the Russians if they invaded Latvia; get real.
If the Russians invade Latvia, America would talk about it ceaselessly, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, but otherwise just fall back to Poland.

Nevermind that your Neo-Isolationist fantasy that being in NATO is what would cause a war with Russia and not being in NATO would prevent that war, is nonsense, wouldn't go to war for Latvia, but could still bumblefuck your way into a war with the Russians none the less, NATO or no NATO.
The inherent confrontation between the nuclear powers is worldwide, and frontline with Russia is not in Europe, it's over the pole, and the most likley scenario is not Russia invading Latvia, it's launch on false warning by mistake. Mostly likely the Russians launching becuase their early warning system is nowhere near as comprehensive as America's, so one day the Russian MIRV's would just appear over the pole and nobody in America would even know why, launch on warning hair trigger alert, eventually that hair trigger just breaks by mistake.
