Re: Brazil
I'm not a giant fan of Greenwald, he certainly has some good stuff. But he is a Communist sympathizer so he views anything straying away from Socialist Dogma as wrong. What I like about that little video report is he recognizes that the Elites failed the people, however he stops there and fails to see failure in globalism for average folks, and fails to see that people are actively voting against Globalism. IMO, he disrespects average folks ability to see Globalism as a failure and to choose an anti-Globalist leader. Rather he sees the average folks as panicked, scared and picking a radical.
And, Greenwald doesn't have a good record when assessing what is going on with Latin American Leaders. He was a strong supporter of Chavez and thought he was really helping the people.

Re: Brazil
yep. He used to call out Obama on his bullshit the same as he did Bush, so he has my respect on that front. He also has ruthlessly called out the Russia hysteria fake news shit of the Washington post and the media, which also impresses me.

Greenwald is the only twitter account I check regularly, I agree his ideology is pointedly left. I usually scroll through any of his tweets about Brazil because who gives a shit, but something interesting in Brazil has happened so now I'm curious. He has made it a point to say several times that Bolsonaro is not the Trump of Brazil, as the media has been framing him.C-Mag wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 11:17 amI'm not a giant fan of Greenwald, he certainly has some good stuff. I'm not fully up to speed, but Bolsonaro so far doesn't strike me as a high-minded leader capable of resisting power absolutely, he seems overly interested in dictatorship and killing people he disagrees with. Hard for me to support that. Even harder since I'm not Brazilian and can't vote and care very little about the country, except for the UFC fighters they produce and the gay journalist whose articles I enjoy reading. I wish Glenn the best, if what he is saying is true, he should get the fuck out of there. I hope his boyfriend knows some jiu jitsu to protect them, all the craziest most gruesome shit I see on LiveLeak comes out of Brazil.GLENN GREENWALD: Well, I think it’s really important to put it into its proper context. For a long time, the Western media was referring to him as “Brazil’s Trump.” That’s how he was marketing himself. The reality is much different. He’s by far the most extremist leader now elected anywhere in the democratic world. He’s far closer, as we’ve discussed before, to Rodrigo Duterte, the president of the Philippines, or even General Sisi, the dictator of Egypt.

pineapple:
I only know of Brazil from those fucked up liveleak videos which show Brazilian inmates breaking eachothers arms, or lynching and decapitating eachother in their cells over god knows what+the vids that show brazilian hitmen using machetes to maim their victims or emptying a glock into their heads. Sewer country. I don't watch MMA so they don't even have that going for them in my book.
I view the Brazilian election as two homeless people fighting over a trashbag full of aluminum cans. Nobody gives a shit about either of the contestants or the prize. Turd world jungle favela.

You easily know more about Bolsonaro than I do, I wish Pauolo was here to give us the scoop...……. it's unfortunate about that helicopter ridepineapplemike wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 3:58 pmGreenwald is the only twitter account I check regularly, I agree his ideology is pointedly left. The thing about national leaders is that they reflect the countries that elect them. Take Putin for example, most in the West consider him a tyrant, but Russians are a tough people and appreciate a tough leader and despise pussies. They could never have a Justin Trudeau as a leader. So, when I look at Brazil's history you see Pre-Columbian warring tribes and cannabalism, then a brutal colonial period, followed by a very bumpy path to Independence and a lot of military coups along the way. Bolsonaro is probably a good fit for a county the produced the Gracie's.

Re: Brazil
Honestly I barely know anything about him. It sounds like the last president, Lula da Silva, was leading in the polls, but was jailed earlier in the year for corruption charges related to bribery and some potential quid pro quo shit
Whether or not jailtime for the charges is appropriate seems to be up for debateLula, who holds a commanding lead in every poll for the presidential election later this year despite his conviction, may still appeal to a higher court. Now, the former president’s fate is as complicated as the surreal Brazilian judicial system that controls it: In a few months we will know if the Workers’ Party leader will spend the next years of his life in jail or in the presidential palace for a third term.
So I don't know, seems like both (all) sides are dirty, just another shithole country to me. Hopefully there aren't any mass killings in the years aheadThe indictment against Lula is rife with problems. The apartment’s title was never transferred to Lula or his associates; he and his wife never used the property; the prosecution could not identify an explicit quid pro quo or benefit related to Petrobras; no official or internal documentation linking Lula to the apartment was produced; and the case rests almost entirely on the testimony of the executive who hoped to gain sentencing leniency for his cooperation.
...
The president of the court who convicted Lula today — the boss of the three judges on the panel — previously declared in an interview that Moro’s indictment was “just” and “irreproachable” before confessing that he had not examined the evidence.
...
Lula’s treatment at the hands the courts is not exactly anomalous, critics say. Brazil is grappling with a moral quandary over its criminal justice system: Is it fair that, like Lula, thousands of people are sentenced each year without irrefutable material evidence of their alleged crimes?
