Overlap? You may not know my position on this. NeoCons are just Progressives redheaded stepson. They have almost identical policies. IMO, the NeoCon fringe started with Bush 41. Hardly any policy differences between Progs and NeoCons, especially in Foreign Policy.

@ ND
I think he did sour on Regime Change some, but as far as I know he was still out there preaching what a bad guy Assad was.
Well, many Neocons started out as Cold Warrior Democrat Hawks. Some of Bush's cabinet worked for the Dem Henry "Scoop" Jackson in the past. A lot of them leaned left on social issues. The thing is, when Bush was in power, a lot of prominent Democrats did openly criticize the premise of the Iraq war and the nation building aspect. They certainly changed their tune with Libya though. Not that we built shit there, but it was the same type of magical thinking that Bush engaged in. Get rid of bad guy, immediately better society follows. Its weird how the shittiest ideas jump back and forth between parties. Never the good ones lol.

Progressivism is the Establishment Theology. The GOP had to have a way to get their folks on board so they ginned up this idea of the New Conserative Movement. All it was.......... just a rewording of Progressive Policies. Take for example the entire Russia Scandal with Trump. Jeb Bush and Hillary hired the same guy for the Dossier on Trump. That is the Establishment.

I'm not really an expert on Bush jr. I wonder when he bought into the neocon project. When he campaigned he talked about humble foreign policy and spoke against nation building. Did he change his stance before or after he got into office?

He certainly didn't get this shit from his dad. I have quite a bit of respect for Bush Sr. on foreign policy stuff. He was prudent in the first Gulf War and avoided getting us sucked in (even if he did fan the flames of Arab resentment a bit) and he was solemn after the Soviet Union collapsed. While Fukayama and his ilk were talking about the end of history, Bush was saying that while the USSR falling apart was good, we should not pretend like many conflicts we had been ignoring will be gone forever. They will re-emerge. He was absolutely right. Bush Sr. had a far better grasp of the limits and blindspots of our country than anyone in the oval office since.

Shit, I really wanted to see Colbert's reaction last night, but forgot all about it. Did anyone catch the show?

I didn't watch it. Here's what I think happened.

1. Leno-esque "Did you hear about this, Did you see this?"
2. Explain the situation
3. Sex-pun
4. Everyone laughs.

No way, man.. he's been mocking the guy for over a decade. If he didn't do it last night, he's definitely working up a huge sendoff for his arch-nemesis.

Is he still clinging to his old Colbert Report shtick? I figure he'd transitioned into the late night role without pretense.

He did, but he brings back the character from time to time. Calls him "Stephen Colbert's cousin" or something. :)

More people are watching Bill Oreilly's reruns than are watching that piece of crap. GCF bragging about watching the #3 out of 3 late night show, good for you.

Bragging? I don't watch any late-night these days, but I've seen almost every episode of the Report. That shit was funny as HELL.
