The thing about the MOAB, or any FAE, is that the intensity of the blast, comes from the size of the aerosol cloud, the cloud spreads out, and when you ignite it, the shockwake picks up all the energy by spreading through the cloud, the bigger the cloud the more energy is gains, but when you drive it down into a confined space, it still has effects, but much of the kinetic shockwave effects are actually diminished, and it's more using heat at that point, and it's hot, but it's not that hot, it's not nuclear hot or anything even close to that.

Meanwhile, you could just use a 2,000 lb and put it right into the mouth of the cave, and that would have similar effects, because it's pretty much the same temperature as an FAE. Plasma is plasma, HE plasma, FAE plasma, pretty much the same.

Well, MOAB is fun, no doubt about it, the troops all love the MOAB, and it's not like America is short of cash and can't afford it, so just from a boosting the morale stand point, go ahead and toss a MOAB in there if it makes them feel any better, but in terms of actually winning the war, it has no effects whatsoever.

I think Trump had an enlightning moment of "Hey, this is cool!". He is said to be OK on how the Syria strike went.

Think about, a guy so narcissist as Trump would sooner or later found the refuge of all Presidents, the Foreign Policy arena, where they can do stuff without the annoying Congress, which doesn't let them to fulfill their bold objectives on the domestic front. Joe Sixpack the voter has gone back to his usual things and there's no election campaign going on...

This whole "clearing out the caves" thing has been done to death, this is where they were in 2002, they spent weeks blasting caves up in the Shah-i-Kot, blew them caves up real good, but turns out, they were never in the caves, they were in Pakistan, so unless you're going to drop a MOAB on Kirachi, I don't think you're getting many of them in the grand scheme of things.

Add to that the closer relationship that Russia is starting to have with Pakistan, and you have the same backers there. As China is already Pakistan's best friend.
