Not sure Hash fits the bill of a neo-McCarthyist. It's just the post-modern trend of words meaning whatever one feels they should mean working its magic, plus Hash simply not being very knowledgeable about the world he's travelled in. I know from personal experience, living in a city which gets those huge ass cruise ships docking in for a couple of hours, spitting out tourists who wander the streets, crowding the popular photo ops spots, for three or four hours before the cruise sets off to Norway... That sort of travel generally doesn't impart alot of information.

Lol... yeah, I was wrong about it being a free market. That this means I must therefore be a sap mired in Marxism and that that detail makes everything else invalid, is not ridiculous. It's pathetic and lazy. Being wrong is being wrong. Unlike others, I have no problem admitting that. Stop pulling assumptions about my political beliefs out of your ass and do some basic research. Have I ever in all the time on the DCF or here advocated for the abolishment of privately owned means of production? Have I ever argued that "religion is the opiate of the masses"? How about believing in "alienation of the proletariat"? I surely must have advocated that, then?

Even if they don't have a free market economy, allowing Chinese businesmen to become billionaires is still not the sort of project Mao would have endorsed. Hell, they even have a limited multi-party system now in some states. They still suck in terms of freedom, obviously. But so does Saudi Arabia... and last I checked, they weren't Marxist. Turns out you don't have to be Marxist to be a freedom-hater.

Turns out old McCarthy had a pretty good point. His mistake was in how he went about confronting it. He actually gave them a victory that set our civilization back generations.
