I am just insulting the fuck out of your ignorant ass for daring to lecture college graduates on electromagnetism. Go fuck yourself. Come here with decent arguments next time and I won't call you out on it.
This is a well-known effect. Our entire continent got hit with solar storm that did the exact same effect on us and it destroyed the primitive electrical systems of the day. If that happened today, it would be the exact same problem. We'd have little to no power because our entire grid is above ground and unshielded. Our communications networks would be totally fried. Most of our electronics would be bricked.
And yet you two yokels are posturing and shitting all over anybody who dares to suggest we ought to harden our electrical grids and communication networks.
I mean.. we are literally just talking about shielding power plants and burying power lines here. That's it. You are fighting against common sense things like you know what you are talking about, insulting people, and acting like two jackasses, so I felt compelled to strike back.

Not seeing an argument that proves 90% lethality if North Korea detonates some nukes in the ionsphere, you don't have an argument, you are just going to grandstand and pimp your credentials, as if that is a good enough argument on it's own. Pretend everyone is smart as you are, now make your argument and get off your high horse. Outrageous claims require evidence to back them up, appeals to authority, that does not cut it.

Setting yourself up as an authority and then refusing to argue with us by saying you can't explain it, that's an appeal to authority fallacy, and a really lazy one at that.
You're afraid your argument won't hold up, so you refuse to make that argument so that no one can call you out your argument not holding up. Shit or get off the pot.
"Only the College Boys know, we can't explain it to you rubes, but do as we say or we're all doomed"?
Best and Brightest Domino Theory fallacy, Robert McNamara & Co; some of the most brilliant academics America has ever produced, SIFCLF'd America straight to the brink in the Cuban Missile Crisis and then into the ditch of Vietnam. Mmmhmm.

But his credentials though! How dare we poke fun at someone for having a dumb argument, especially when they have such a high opinion of themselves and their own intelligence? The effrontery! lulz

This literally is how a power plant works. We convert mechanical motion into electricity by rotating large magnets surrounded by coils of conductor.

OMFG
The 90% lethality number is a product of estimating how many people would die if food production were interrupted for a year and no food aid was forthcoming. That's a completely different set of calculations and assumptions.
Do you acknowledge that we generate electricity by rotating a magnet within a coil of conductor?

No, genius. Gamma radiation in the atmosphere creates a rapidly moving magnetic effect. Guess what happens when you rotate a magnetic field around all the conductors (i.e. power lines) in America..
I mean. Fuck. Just when I thought it couldn't get more retarded than Capps, you dragged your stupid ass into the thread.

This is what we are discussing. If you arguing about something else, that's on you, you are arguing past us and creating a strawman of our positions.

No, retard. YOU are the one all over the place. You disputed either the fact that electromagnetism applied to a conductor generates current or the fact that a large surge of gamma radiation in the atmosphere generates a huge magnetic effect. We were never clear on which because you don't even understand that simple statement, so I just proceeded to insult you instead. Now you are debating me about how many Americans will perish if our food production for one year was interrupted and nobody was around to provide us with more food. That's a completely different kind of analysis.
You don't even have a coherent position here. You are just all over the place saying NO NO NO NO NO without anything to back up what you are saying.
As far as 90% lethality.. I suspect it's at least possible, but very unlikely. You'd also have to shut down Europe, Russia, and China/Japan. Maybe Australia too. If just North America got hit, then those places could easily send supplies and troops.

See, this is the problem with North Korea, it's not so much the North Koreans, it's the Americans, the SIFCLF's are back, and the Domino Theory too, so it's not that a Korean Missile Crisis has to happen, but there is a very good chance that the Americans will work themselves up into a frenzy and take things to the brink again, and you can only go to that well so many times before you get burned, thus, it's simply safer if the Americans do this now, rather than a decade or so from now, just get it over with, before the North Korean nuclear capability has reached Redwings over the CONUS and the Americans have spun themselves into a corner with it.
