When I think of Texans I think losers for some reason. Maybe it's the Alamo thing, maybe it's the Civil War thing, they just can't seem to stop mythologizing their own sad sack defeats. Alexandria is the ultimate destination, assuming I fall into a pile of money between now and retirement. Unfortunately, it's a working town and we won't be working at that point. Savannah is beautiful and full of character, but the crime rate is astronomical. True story: a panhandler tried to shake me down and got slapped with Brooklyn upside one cheek and Jersey down the other. She had the nerve to complain that I ignored her. It's the first time in my life I've ever used the phrase "Whadda we know each other?" but it well suited the occasion.

I'm going to Charleston in the spring. They tell me that if I liked Savannah I'll love Charleston. The retirement train keeps a runnin.
