After the terror, the platitudes. And the hashtags. And the candlelit vigils. And they always have the same message: ‘Be unified. Feel love. Don’t give in to hate.’ The banalities roll off the national tongue. Vapidity abounds. A shallow fetishisation of ‘togetherness’ takes the place of any articulation of what we should be together for – and against. And so it has been after the barbarism in Manchester. In response to the deaths of more than 20 people at an Ariana Grande gig, in response to the massacre of children enjoying pop music, people effectively say: ‘All you need is love.’ The disparity between these horrors and our response to them, between what happened and what we say, is vast. This has to change.

Love is the answer.’ Where’s the rage? If the massacre of children and their parents on a fun night out doesn’t make you feel rage, nothing will. The terrorist has defeated you. You are dead already.

Christians have absolutely no shortage of atrocities to match those of the Muslims. That's my main point.

Lol the Iraq was wasn't a religious war. The Evangelicals were very supportive of it, but they generally very supportive of our armed forces, so by that logic all American conflicts would be religious wars. You are trying to equate a war, while pointless, to domestic terrorism.

No, I'm providing a reason why bombed-out shells of human beings are pissed at us. And yes, given our government's fanatical devotion to Israel, many of those conflicts are, in fact, based in religion. Evangelicals trying to prod Christ into rolling down by bombing the infidels.

You tried to make the comparison of a protestant girl with a bible and a rifle to a muslim bombing a concert. When I called you on it, you started talking about Christian religious wars from 400 years ago, and geopolitical conflicts that have very little to do with religion. Point of order, no. I was comparing the (presumably) Protestant girl with the bible and rifle to the earlier-posted picture of an arab kid with 2 rifles. Why are we supposed to be so frightened of that image, and not the other?

You realize that the Crusades were a response to the seizure of Christian cities by Muslims right? I'm not defending the action one way or the other, but this narrative of Christian persecution of Muslims that the media perpetuates every time this kind of thing happens is ridiculous. The crusades have nothing to do with detonating a nail bomb on innocent bystanders.

The crusades were one of a dozen conflicts that I could have used, as an alternative to the Iraq invasions, as I pointed out. The mere fact that I mentioned them does not invalidate my entire argument, or tie me to whatever goofiness you've witnessed elsewhere.

And yeah, while we're on it, the Crusades were a major holy war between Muslims and Christians, and a pretty shameful display for the European church, on all accounts. Kids were used, allied cities were sacked throughout the journey, countless men, women, and children slaughtered to feed the armies - even before the conquests actually began. A complete shitshow.
