He's a shrewed player. He doesn't force NATO to a corner that they have to react. Push too much and I promise, there is that line. Above all, he takes his time, looks for the opportunity, waits with patience for the opening to emerge. Putin can wait for years. Any US president cannot, because at the most he has four or less years to go before the next election. (Even if Putin will have elections next year, btw)

What's important to notice is how Putin is control of the political realm in Russia. Now a weaker run-of-the-mill politbyro member Yeltsin had to go extreme lengths, even to deploy tanks on the streets and bombard the Parliament, to stay in power. Putin cuts opposition of before it can even gain serious ground. And Putin's information campaign has been quite successful in Russia. And Russians have well understood the hint that they do have a new tzar in the Kremlin, who's there for the long haul.

Hitler on the other hand wanted so badly a war, that he had it far too early for German military buildup. Armies usually don't go to war with training tanks.

What's NATO gonna do? Have another meeting? Strongly worded letter? So long as he doesn't cross the Article V line, NATO ain't gonna do shit.

Those warm water shipyards in Mykolaiv, is where the Soviets built their navy.

What's the point of having the naval base in Crimea, if you ain't got no ships? You're going to challenge the Americans? With what, a Corvette Navy? Good luck with that.
That's a nice little city they got there in Mykolaiv. I don't know though, if Putin went that far he'd almost have to take Odessa too or he'd be in a Fort Sumter situation. Yeah I think everyone would have lost their shit if he crossed the Dnieper.

I'm curious to see how well that will play out with the conservative GOP base (not the same as Trump base). They have a lot of ideological goals on the agenda that congress will want to push through, and any damage that causes will be put on Trump. RealPolitik doesn't work too well for person in an elected office, you need a bit of obfuscation to pull it off.

I just heard that the Senate Republicans passed a horrendous budget that increases debt ~50%, I really hope I misheard.

Apparently only Rand Paul voted against it.

Seriously.

We're all keynesians now, I might as get on with how I learned to stop worrying and love the debt.

We need to sell a Trump dossier to CNN.
