Now you can go to Alaska to get away from it all in your RV or whatever but what's the first thing that happens to you well you're herded into the tourist shop and on you're way out you might get to a terminal where you can buy some fast food and after that Walmart is down the block so really you haven't gone anywhere yet even though you travelled a thousand miles it's all the same. Sure you can get away from it all Christopher McCandless style but you'll probably die. Maybe you know someone that's already figured out how to get away from all the plastic shopping bags though so hey good on you.

I'm not actually that big on travel anymore anyways, I've been all over, been there, done that, but, in the depths of winter, several months in? OK, I'm ready for few days at the villa then.

Well, the snow is fine, but actually, in the depths of winter, everything just turns to ice, the snow melts a bit one day, then it refreezes rock hard, and stays that way for weeks, so it's not so nice as the powdery slopes at the ski resort, it's more like a Soviet Gulag in Siberia.

Well, I like winter, I like having four seasons, but when winter is so long, and so dark, and so cold, it's not that it breaks you, but it does start to get on your nerves after months of it, particularly even in early spring, which I actually call "sprinter" because their ain't much spring involved, by then, yeah, I'm kinda sick of it, that's a good time for a little vacay in the sun just as a break from it.

It does break a lot of people though. Alaska has the highest suicide rate in America. Sun doing fucky things like not even bothering to rise one day out of the year. Snowed in all winter. No good looking women. Lots of stocked up booze and a shotgun. Well some people might get a little stir crazy. Not say "Canadian needs to bug out to the Bahamas" stir crazy but maybe worse.

The other part is that a lot of people go to Alaska for a second chance. They think "yeah imma live that life away from it all. I'll get away from this crazy suicidity filled with trans queer blue haired liberals and that nagging ex-wife."

Next thing you know, BLAMMO. Another suicide stat that couldn't actually hack it and make ends meet. Happens everyday really. Sad.

Well I'm not that far north, I have been North of 60, and that's a whole nother ballgame, this is just winter down here, it's not like it makes you crazy, it just gets old after a few months, but up in the Arctic? Yeah, that's like another planet, winter nightime in the arctic can last for 24 hours, it's called polar night. Even in the winter daytime, it's not like the sun rises into the sky, the light just comes up on the horizon and goes back down again.

And it's fuckin cold, you're not going to be enjoying the snow, in -50C, there is no snow, only blowing ice.

Somebody down there in the sunbelt is sick of the heat? Dreaming of being cold? OK, try Alert in the NWT in winter, that should do you for awhile with cold, if you want more cold after that, then you're pretty hardcore. -50C? Feels like outer space cold. -30C is cold, but that's just winter cold, but another -20C down from there? Oh yeah, you notice the difference, sho nuff.

I've always found that down to -40C I'm like "no probs", but once it goes below -40C that's when I start to say "yeesh"

Lower class whites are above blacks in the order of things, nobody wants to live in the trailerpark, and people don't flee if one Barack Obama moves in next door, but when a neighborhood reaches a critical mass of black people, whitey, is outie, off to the suburbs, when the blacks get there, they make new suburbs further out, lower class whites are barely a thing outside of rural communities, and that's way out in Fly Over Country.

Oh no they're not, not anymore. Affluence and education are definitely higher on the social scale, especially as the middle class separates into the affluent and the struggling.

The middle class is only struggling when they compare themselves to the affluent, the middle class is not actually struggling in historical terms, nor are they struggling in relation to the blacks, and to find a lower class white person outside of Fly Over Country, you'd have to go to some rare cantonment like South Boston, but really, those people aren't actually white, they're Irish Catholics.
