Re: Poking the Bear Again
in effect, MAGA broke the Soviets in 1981
it wasn't two destroyers in the Black Sea half measures
it was a massive Carrier Battle Group right in the Barents Sea
they flew bombing runs right over the Soviet submarine bases in Murmansk
and the Soviets didn't do anything about it
MAGA called the Soviets bluff, at which point the Soviet position began to unravel worldwide

you can't have it both ways, he's just a Reagan Democrat
this is MAGA, this is what MAGA is all about
get up in the Russians kitchen and calling their bluff was job one
under MAGA in 1981, America launched the largest naval manuevers since the Second World War
the US Navy went right up to the Russian coast and challenged them to fight World War Three

it comes from the delusion that Trump was somehow not a NeoCon, when of course he wasHanarchy Montanarchy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 11:45 amWhoa, buddy - comin' in pretty hot.
Trump's position was simply no half measures
so instead of the Obama style Velvet Revolution ambiguity
Trump preferred a Reagan style peace through strength option
for example deploying W76-2 tactical MIRV's on Trident II and ramping up the Hypersonic INF program

I was just a kid in the 80s, so for a long time I didn't appreciate the role American policy played in the collapse of the USSR.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 11:50 amit comes from the delusion that Trump was somehow not a NeoCon, when of course he was

Kind of figured it just collapsed under its own weight, and would have no matter what we did. Realizing that wasn't true went a long way towards making me more sympathetic to the much maligned Neocons.

Re: Poking the Bear Again
the danger of the Biden Administration is not that they are NeoCons
the danger is that they are weak, divided & incompetent
they've got the wagons circled in paranoia, and they have too many irons in the fire at once
they are not focused, they are not acting deliberately, they are letting events carry them along
and that is existentially dangerous with 13,000 thermonuclear warhead facing off at hair trigger alert

most people have forgotten 1981 by now, it's ancient historyHanarchy Montanarchy wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 11:56 amI was just a kid in the 80s, so for a long time I didn't appreciate the role American policy played in the collapse of the USSR.Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 11:50 amit comes from the delusion that Trump was somehow not a NeoCon, when of course he was

the Carrier Battle Group going into the Barents, the Soviets shooting down KAL 007, the brink of World War Three
nobody remembers that anymore, but that was MAGA, that was the Neoconservative Reagan Democrats
in the 1970's, a huge chunk of the Democrat party flipped to the GOP, because the Democrats were Soviet appeasers

Re: Poking the Bear Again
Reagan was incapacited by 1981 and Nancy Reagan's astrologer ran America's foreign policy. Is that the MAGA you're talking about?Smitty-48 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 11, 2021 11:39 amyou can't have it both ways, he's just a Reagan Democrat
