The civil war wasn't a collaboration for mutual benefit.

The current schisms in our society is partly a creation of the political, and wealthy, classes. It been a consistent tactic of business/political/security at both federal, and state, levels and for centuries to create conflict if it does not already exist, and strengthen them when it does.

That does not mean there are no real differences, or conflicts, but rather that the hopelessness you see is the creation of those who want you to feel separate from other Americans. That gives them more power, and everyone else less.

Well, are you are right. Places like FOX News (where everything is claimed to be "fair and balanced " and I think for a while they were reporting on things that weren't actual news stories but just conspiracies- i.e. Birther movement) and even conservative news radio personalities (like Rush Limbaugh ) have help to create the current atmosphere of anger, hatred, and fear. Basically, the Rs are reaping what they sowed with Trump (and a lot of conservatives don't like Trump)

What about those of us that are angry, hateful and/or fearful of the current administration based on the surveillance state, NDAA, drone strikes and the extension of the Patriot Act? Those issues didn't get much play on FOX News IIRC

Well, are you are right. It is a human, but particularly American, trait to not think of the long term, or even the not so long term, consequences. As a nation, we just do not remember, let alone learn from, our past, and to think of the future. America acts like a sugared up child thinking of getting even more candy despite the crash from the last binge. Here, the Republican, and to some extent, the Democratic Parties, along with the wealthy, have done just that.

Actually, thinking on it, the Democrats are just a bad. They have used the charges of racism, sexism, homophobia, and xenophobia as hammers to quash any dissent from the lower classes they supposedly represent, and serve. For that matter, they use it on those socially conservative, but still lower class. You could hear all through the last election. We have all of those -ism still, but it's gotten to the point were this liberal has to think "Really, are we sure about that?" each time I hear the accusations.

Bah, almost all the elites have been making us suckers, and they have been driving to this cliff for at least forty years.

The current MSM's ownership, are all in an every shrinking number of the wealthy. They are not interested in you knowing because it cause problems with the government, and their fellow elites, and it cost more money to do actually reporting, than to regurgitate the established talking points on the hot topic of the day. Gin up those emotions, the excitement, the anger, and get those revenue generating views, and clicks.

I couldn't disagree with you more. The powerful in the country don't care about abortion, gay marriage and flag burning. They only care about keeping their power and grabbing more.

Do you ever notice that on the issues that most deeply effect us, (Patriot Act, Wall Street behavior, big brother/surveillance state, Oligarchy) both teams are on exactly the same page?

These wedge issues are meaningless. It's just red meat for the masses. Jingly keys... SQUIRREL!

When they can get us in a panicked frenzy over the small shit, we don't have time to pay attention to their treasonous behavior.
