Don't worry about this strike. Everyone knew they were coming. Air traffic over Syria closed down for days before the strikes, no russian or civilian casualties.

This strike is more about western leaders trying not to look weak to its subjects, than anything else. Which is why this strike was so massive, compared to the actual damage it inflicted. We've decided Assad gassed his population, and that thin red line demands a response. This response didn't really change anything. Assad can still gas the population.

Russia won't really respond to this, as it's not really a message to Russia, but a message to the general western public. Both sides showed restraint, in light of the situation.

Also to see if the Russian air defenses can really do anything about our cruise missiles.. they failed. That part looks really bad for them. Patriot missile batteries would have nailed at least half of them.

We go to war and people die - American Public flips out and blathers about failure.

We sit back and strike chemical weapons manufacturing sites and military targets and no one dies - American Public flips out and blathers about failure.

Gotta say the extremely vocal American public sound like a bunch of perpetually whining know-nothings. When you can always count on their response to be some kind of cynical criticism, it becomes pretty easy to disregard their opinions entirely.

Yeah I know, it's done wonders for Anglo-American relations too. Now Trump knows that May is prepared to deep throat his tiny penis when he needs it maybe he won't be such a chickenshit about coming on his non state visit to the sceptred isle.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.

I don't think we for certain can say if they failed or not. Send enough missiles, and some will get through. Bullshit is coming from both sides on this, Russians saying "we stopped almost all", while the Americans saying "they didn't stop any of them".

The truth is hidden somewhere in the middle of all that bullshit. And we don't know exactly where.

It’s not a simple calculation of how many missiles did we launch vs how many were shot down. The question is how many were shot down at sites that had missile defenses. If only a third of our targets were covered by anti-missile defense, and a third were shot down, that’s bad news for us. If every target was covered by anti-missile defense, that’s bad news for Russia.

The simple answer is to not do anything unless US territory is attacked or if an English-speaking country is going to get steamrolled

Theresa May’s essential argument for Syria strikes is nonsensical
Theresa May’s essential argument that the bombing in Syria in the early hours of Saturday was “strong enough to deter but weak enough not to provoke the Russians” is so obviously nonsensical it explains why she didn’t wish to make it in parliament.

This was “gesture bombing” of carefully selected second-order military installations, to be seen to be doing something – but not too much – in response to Bashar al-Assad’s apparent chemical weapons attack, enabled by the Russians, on civilians in the Damascus enclave of Douma last week.
@Smits, I kind of like this term used by the Guardian, "gesture bombing."

What a clusterfuck.

Double cucked, cucked coming and cucked going, by wag the dog and the bleeding heart peaceniks too.

But whatever, if the filthy ignorant masses are not prepared to hang a few politicians from the lampposts, this is what they'll get.
