What do you think happens if the Chinese supplant America as the premier power? America ceases to be a Great Power? No, the Chinese just make themselves into the focus of the world's ire, and America goes back to being the underdog heroes, Rocky Balboa for the win.

Flight to quality cannot be defeated by China, anyway you slice it.

When was the American Zenith? 1991 when America became the Unipolar Hyperpower? Hell no, 1961 when America stood against the Bolshevist hordes and the free world rallied around her. Go ahead, China, make yourselves into the new Soviet menace, see how that works out for you.

This time your tariffs will show the mammon-worshipping Chinese decay feeders.
This time they’ll work right.
This time we’ll all get rich through forced price inflation.
This time.

And if not this time, maybe in another 40 years when everyone forgets how shitty your ideas have proven to be every single time we’ve tried them.

That is to say, maybe next time too!
You’ll show us.

OMFG he thinks Sowell's book represents the vast majority of economics professor's opinions.

Fuck. This shit is getting even more hilarious.

Pay more, get less, while you transfer your wealth to foreigners by subsidizing more for them for less. Science!

Given that you are describing the "vast majority," show me a textbook that sets out your theory of tariffs. Any one from the basket-full from your minor or your recreational reading will do.

OMFG he thinks Sowell and neoliberalists are responsible for guiding us into the gaping jaws of mammon-wirshipping cannibals while also believing that Sowell is a fringe economist with non mainstream ideas.

So ... I guess the economy of the USA is guided by those “Orthodox School” fringe outliers.

Lulz.

Just stop.

There is no such thing, you dummy, and you fucking know it. There are several major schools of economics with completely different takes on how this shit works. Sowell wrote a book apparently describing neo-classical school economics to dumbasses as if it's the established facts, and all those people who disagree simply don't understand "economics". Then you have no shortage of dummies who read that one book, never bother to actually learn anything about economics other than this slanted description, and then lecture everybody else who doesn't agree with it.

Shouldn't need a textbook to figure it out, you raise prices in America for you, to subsidize selling product to me for less than you pay for it.

Direct transfer of wealth from you to me, who wins?

Speaker to Animals wrote:God, you're an idiot when it comes to economics. You do not even grasp the distinction between macro and micro demand and supply curves, and you possess no concept of the problem of trade deficits . You probably don't know how to calculate a GDP either based on your inability to grasp a core feature of the problem.

You have this one partisan neocon book, though, and fuck anybody who suggests you get an actual macroeconomics textbook so you don't look like such an idiot.

Imagine in a history thread somebody shows up with zero exposure to actual history other than reading The People's History of The United States, and proceeds to lecture those of us who took several courses in American history in college and, you know, actually bothered to read about differing perspectives on history rather than just that one Marxist book. You might call that guy an idiot, no?
But like the first day of any macroeconomics class will tell you “trade deficits don’t matter” about 5 times. What is the macroeconomics textbook you’re reading that suggests otherwise?

Well, I agree that there is no such thing as a textbook that argues that tariffs do anything other than to fuck over the citizens of the governments that enact them for the benefit of corporations, foreigners, and union fatass bosses.

Otherwise, your jerking off about Sowell is pretty entertaining; especially considering how utterly mainstream and non-controversial Sowell is. You're an army of one; something to be said for that, I guess.
