Vehicles are tools, they are one of the worst purchases you can make. They lose money the moment you purchase them, and they cost you money every month without appreciation(few exceptions)

If you are independently wealthy, by all means, have Jay Leno's Garage. But for most everyone else, by used, know what you need it for, maintain it and run the wheels off it.

It's not so much about the looks, it's just the poor man's supercar, millioniares performance at a middle class price. Also afforfable and reliable enough to run as a daily driver, while being race ready for the track at the same time.
I drive a 2002 accord so you got a way better car than me. Not that I'm complaining, I have no problem at all with my car. The repairs have been minimal, and it gets great gas mileage. The paint job looks like Fallujah though, fairly beaten up.
Nicer is all subjective, my wifes Mercedes cost twice as much, and she thinks it's nicer than the Nissan, which, sheer comfort wise, probably so, but I just wanted to taste the supercar spectrum of performance, you only live once.
Heated seats are subjectively comfy.

Got my first car, 2007 Mazda 3 in 2009, for 13k. Treated it like shit, never once took it in for maintenance. Go about 15k miles between oil changes. Shocks and struts are still factory and are pretty much non-existent at this point. Still runs like a champ. Oldest is using it for his driver's test on Monday.

Find a car from the seventies that can match that, and be affordable for a private in the army in the seventies.

You can't.
Was it a hatchback or a sedan?

So the sedan version. Okay.

Point being, I didn't buy it as a status symbol, I just wanted to drive it, I don't look at it, I sit in it, the fun of it is not on the outside, it's in the seat, like, a F-15 looks cool, but I'm sure its much cooler to fly one.

But like an F-15, it slams you back into the seat, which, really isn't my wife's thing, she likes luxurious, I like pulling G.

Now that you've sorted that detail out, we're waiting for you to tell us what car from fifty years ago is comparable to a modern car, and can be afforded on poverty wages.

I know better than to hold my breath.

I'm a hedonist, if all I wanted from life was utilitarian tools and maintainence, I could have just defected to the Soviet Union when I had my chance. Checkpoint Charlie was right there, could have just walked across.

You just said you only buy used.
If you were truly a Hedonist you would buy new, nicest, most titillating car you could find. Ramifications be damned.

I couldn't afford new, new is $120,000+, I drove a hard bargain, I got a great price, and it is, or at least was basically mint, the guy babied it, didn't have much clicks on it, it was close enough to new to not make any significant difference. But to me, it is the nicest most titillating car, I think it's the best sportscar in the world pound for pound.

Good for you. 8-)

There is a certain amount of joy and accomplishment of getting a great deal on something. Hell, if you can afford it and you enjoy it. Awesome.
My main point was I see folks being car poor, and that's frickin stupid. Invest in shit that appreciates. 2 Years ago I bought a 2004 F-150. Now, I can afford to make payments on a new truck, but why. That 04 had 41k miles on it and was like new and I pay 11k for it. It does everything I need. The deals are out there, single owner rigs that have been babied.

Need to be patient and strike when the iron is hot.
