If cars are so great, why did buggy manufacturers go out of business?

This is a simple exercise dude. China and the USSR both recently ran centrally planned economies. North Korea still does. In fact, their socio-political philosophies are based on market principles diametrically opposed to free markets. Where are they now? How have they prospered? Which of the three is still a third world shithole?

Go through all of human history and spot the economic trends of successful nations, then get back to me about how shutting down international trade is going to make us all richer, like it did for ... whatever example you can find to demonstrate this working.

It will create jobs!!!

Yeah, genius, that talking point got some traction back in 1992. But the middle class has been all but destroyed as jobs got shipped off to slave economies. Maybe update your song and dance a little..

The steel tariffs of the 1980s produced $240million in additional profits for the steel industry and saved 5000 jobs (good). It also triggered a loss of $600 million in revenue and 26,000 jobs in steel dependent/related industries due to price increases caused by the tariffs (fucking catastrophic).

You have to be one small-picture-thinking dude to make an economic trade like that to save “steel”.

A tariff is essentially a tax for all intents and purposes, the Chinese don't pay the tax, Americans pay the tax, to the steel industry, at the expense of everybody else, it does seem to be a way to get Americans to pay more taxes, but since the taxes just to go windfall profits for a entrenched interest at the expense of the nation writ large, it would be the most regressive tax regime America could adopt.

I almost choked on my Moe's burrito with that "source".

LMFAO

That's his source because it is literally the only "economics" he has ever exposed himself to. That one book. He read that one neocon book and now seems himself worthy of lecturing those of us who actually studied it in decent universities about it.
