IIRC there was no power vacuum in Syria until the CIA got involved backing various rebel groups, which Assad kept under control (perhaps brutally at times).

That's like saying we helped out with the "power vacuum" in Iraq... like sure Saddam wasn't a nice guy, but he sure as fuck was in power until we took him out, and then walked out leaving a power vacuum in our wake.

Or then if course there's our effort to tackle the "power vacuum" in Libya..

Or the Taliban in Afghanistan?
