Actually they do better with tape delay. And those ratings are spread over many platforms. The big primetime rating are down on the network but NBC can take that hit when people are for once watching CNBC, MSNBC, and NBC sports renamed the Olympic channel on a weekday afternoon.Smitty-48 wrote:Newsflash, NBC's ratings for the Rio Olympics were way down, it was a big bust for NBC, and that was the Summer Olympics in the same time zone as the USA, in Korea, for the Winter Olympics, running at 2am, with no NHL players on Team USA? NBC is going to be taking a bath on this one.

In what 20 years? NBC signed a long term deal.StCapps wrote:The IOC is going to take a bath on their next TV contract too because of it, but that isn't stopping them from cutting off their nose to spite their face, they are dumber than FIFA.Smitty-48 wrote:Newsflash, NBC's ratings for the Rio Olympics were way down, it was a big bust for NBC, and that was the summer Olympics in the same time zone as the USA, in Korea, for the Winter Olympics, running at 2am with no NHL players? To the IOC
Politics > Money > Entertainment > Sport
Edit: 2032, will there even be an NHL in 2032? Will a Canadian Team win a Stanley Cup by 2032?

You are trying to argue the logic of leaving money on the table, just to stick it to the NHL, because they make enough to take the hit and they don't want to pay the NHL their fair share.clubgop wrote:Actually they do better with tape delay. There is no logic, it's an emotional move by incompetent fools. The IOC is retarded, and so are you for thinking it's in their best interests to be acting this way.

Online viewing was up, still wasn't up net across the board, they took a bath on the Rio Olympics, main reason was, Team USA didn't do so well, not having the NHL players on Team USA, is gonna be bad for NBC.clubgop wrote:Actually they do better with tape delay. It's bad for the USA period, because with its NHL players, Team USA is actually a monster right now, I mean, if they stop putting grinders on the team pointlessly that is.
Why was it down in Rio? Pretty simple, it's all about the soccer, men didn't qualify, women were a bust, a bunch of swimming medals does not make up for the soccer, and same same with a bunch of luge medals not making up for no NHL players in the hockey tournament.
The Summer Olympics is carried by soccer, basketball and the hundred meters, the Winter Olympics is alpine and hockey, if you lose any of those big hitters, you're gonna take a bath.

Picking a fight with the NHL is not in the IOCs best interests, caving to the NHL is in the IOCs best interests. It really is that simple.
"But figure skating though..." is not an adequate reason to leave the Ice Hockey money on the table for no good reason, nice try clubby.

It's really this simple; the NHL wanted to use Olympic hockey highlights, the IOC got up on its high horse and said no, we own those highlights, and you can't use them, and the NHL owners went apoplectic, which, so would I, I'm with the NHL owners 100%, try selling the highlights to wannabe Spengler Cup then, sayonara.StCapps wrote:Picking a fight with the NHL is not in the IOCs best interests, caving to the NHL is in the IOCs best interests. The IOC is in kindergarten and hasn't even learned to share, they would rather the teacher take the toy, than let kid who owns the toy have their turn.Smitty-48 wrote:It's really this simple; the NHL wanted to use Olympic hockey highlights, the IOC got up on its high horse and said no, we own those highlights, and you can't use them, and the NHL owners went apoplectic, which, so would I, I'm with the NHL owners 100%, try selling the highlights to wannabe Spengler Cup then, sayonara.StCapps wrote:Picking a fight with the NHL is not in the IOCs best interests, caving to the NHL is in the IOCs best interests. This is not a competent sporting organization making rational decisions in their best interests, it's precisely the opposite, an incompetent sporting organization making irrational decisions against their best interests.
Wise up clubby, The IOC are really dumb criminals, not smart criminals. FIFA looks semi-competent compared to their level of stupidity.

In terms of Leafs Nation, sending our big guns to Korea, namely Auston and Willy, comes with huge risk, they could get hurt, and if they get hurt, we're fucked, so I actually am not keen at all to send my big guns to the IOC for free, if they're going to be in the breach, it better be for big hockey related revenue to push the cap, if not, then I got no interest in turning them over to Team USA and Team Sweden.
