Respectively, you obviously have no idea how much housing costs....and I promise you...many people my age are finding that CT is quickly becoming overpriced - simply not worth it. We could move to TN and board our Kids at Exeter with our savings....

State pension MilSpec?
Never worked for any state and I’m still working.

I keep a close eye on housing prices in the shore area, since I’d like to retire there. It’s very possible to get a house for around $500K. Yes, the taxes are high. A townhouse can deal with part of that problem and is less expensive. It’s not necessary to have a big or new house.

That said, I’ve heard young family members say the same thing. They are unwilling to live like we did at their age, and so the houses they want are in the $700K range. I feel particularly bad for the ones who can’t live here without living in poverty because they don’t have the income.

If you really want to move out of the region, I suggest you rent before you move. I’ve seen too many people come back.

Raised ranches near me go for >$350K. I would not consider a raised ranch a "Big home". Sure, they're are plenty of house poor young couples...but I surmise not as many as you think.

[Edit]Housepoor >=500K house.

At that income level,$500k wouldn’t be house poor. I’d prefer $400K or less, but you can raise a family in CT on less than $250K without suffering. It gets painful at $150K but not “I need to leave right now” painful.

Respectfully - you don't get it...it's not that it's painful - it's I can get more for my money elsewhere and a plethora of trendy restaurants isn't enough to make young people stay.

CT is overpriced. And in the thongs of leftist control....I don't see anything that will fix the overpricing problem...CT wont cut spending...so taxes wont go down...and the Pensions are a fucking time bomb.

With modern tech, I have no idea why people live in a city.

It's nice not to have a car payment (and/or car insurance).

I agree - I think cities would be on their way our if not for the underclass.

That makes the sense that doesn't.

I get all your points. I just know that the grass isn’t always greener. This area is expensive for a reason. More expensive than it should be, and due in large part to stupid, corrupt, or expedient political decisions, but it’s still pretty great. It never fails to amaze me that I can go from mountains to lakes to the sea, from picture-perfect New England villages to the greatest city on earth, all in a weekend. And it’s cheaper than the closest equivalent state (California). It’s so perfect that God had to throw in the winter so we wouldn’t get too full of ourselves. ;)

By "Greatest City" I presume you mean Bean Town :twisted:

Never thought I'd say this - but Taxchauttes is a better buy right now. California is not an equivalent - I've been there - highly overated and they have eathquakes, fires and feces.

The people of CT need to stop pulling the blue lever - they've been doing it for 50 years plus....and look where that got us? Bob is not the best candidate ever...but at least it would be different path than what's been done. It blows my mind that Surban CT women keep voting DNC on the basis that they think Ned is "nicer person". *And yes- polls show its surban women tipping the favor to the DNC. News flash - Ned is coming for your home and your income in order to prop up the failing CT government. My guess is that so many of these women live in >$500K/year households and simply don't feel the impact of taxes or failing schools.
