By now I think the US has actually been succesful at making itself independent of Saudi oil.
The US is currently the biggest energy exporter. But the world market still relies on what happens in the ME. I haven't heard anything official on this out of the US yet. I'm sure we'll have folks in our government saying we need to attack Iran now.
It was a small weaponized drone attack. No defense for it.
Right. Gotta hand it to those Houthis. They'll probably lose and Yemen just become even more of a shithole full of starving people and Saudi vassals than it is now, but isn't there just something really beautiful about setting what's most precious to your enemies on fire?

Yemeni Rebels hit Saudi Arabia, take out half the SA oil production, experts saying the attack was backed by Iran.
This shit is going to affect us.
Buddying up to oppressive regimes has consequences. Probably going to draw us in too.
If only there was a way to avoid being dependant on oil from these psychos.
A mere 46 percent of oil is used to make gasoline, while the rest goes to help make a variety of other useful products.
The other 54 percent of oil is used to make most over-the-counter medicines, various cleaning products, some rubber, tons of cosmetics, many lubricants and most of the world’s asphalt. Virtually all plastic, and every product made from or containing plastic, ultimately comes from oil. Out of every 42-gallon barrel of oil, 22.6 gallons is used to make products other than gasoline.
All we have to do is give up using plastics, asphalt, medicines, etc...
By now I think the US has actually been succesful at making itself independent of Saudi oil.
Not to the money coming in from it though.
ARABIAN AMERICAN OIL COMPANY (ARAMCO)
Petroleum partnership between U.S. firms and Saudi Arabia, 1933–1990.
The origins of the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO) go back to the May 1933 signing of an oil concession agreement between Saudi Arabia's finance minister, Shaykh Abdullah Sulayman, and Lloyd N. Hamilton, an attorney representing Standard Oil of California (SOCAL, now Chevron). Oil exploration was begun three months later by CASOC, the SOCAL subsidiary established to operate the Saudi concession.
Mobil, Texaco and many others are deeply invested in Saudi oil.
For legal reasons, we are not threatening to destroy U.S. government property with our glorious medieval siege engine. But if we wanted to, we could. But we won’t. But we could.
