And from the table just above that, in 1990 there were 1.3 million crimes with 2,389 murders and 8750 rapes... So double the murders of 2014, same number of rapes with close to only half the population. Or in other words, in 2014 the murder rate is 25% of what it was in 1990, and rape rate is half. Sounds kinda like progress to me.
