I think people still operate from the misconception that news is more than propaganda. Given how powerful propaganda is, why would you expect it’s potential not be exploited? Who watches the Watchmen?

The better question is, who doesn't? You have journalists that specifically go after other journalists, if someone takes down a bad journalist, that's a pretty big story. You also have defamation laws, anyone can sue you, threaten your life, the government can tap your phones, know your location at all times, there is no Fourth anymore. I can't think of anyone less protected when they interact with power, the only power they have is getting the truth to an audience that largely hates them.

Are you serious? Look at my last post in the why we don't trust the media thread. There is no will by journalists to get to the truth. Their audience largely hates them because of shit like my other post. They are far from being unprotected, they are completely protected by a party that they protect in return.
