Rly? My parents toked up around me all the time, I used to hate the smell of it when I was a kid, but they just told me to pipe down and mind my elders, maaan.

Back in the day nobody gave a shit, they toked up while they were driving, then lit up a cigarette, then had a beer, nobody wearing seat belts, it was the seventies maaan, life is a totalitarian nightmare now by the standards of the 1970's, this is the very futuristic police state that my beatnik parents warned me about back then, while they were drinking and driving high as kites in a cloud of tobacco smoke.

I have now lived to see the day, where toking up would be legal, but just about everything else is a crime, just as my father foretold it, back in about 1975.

Well I grew up in the eighties and even then the anti smoking thing in schools was big. They encouraged kids to nag thier smoking parents to quit. There is very places around you can smoke anymore and around children is a no no. I live in a condo here in the city, everyone in all kinds of weather goes out on the balcony to smoke.

No smoking means no smoking. Are people toking up in front of children? I don't think so, but you drink a cold one with a kid around.
Smoking?
What kind of weed Neanderthals are you hanging around? The west coast is all about the edibles and vaping.

Months after Hurricane Maria ravaged Puerto Rico, nearly half the island's residents are still without power. Despite the Federal Emergency Management Agency sending hundreds of workers to the area to help restore the electrical grid, they've been at a loss as to where critical construction items, shipped to the island as part of the recovery effort, have gone.

Now, armed federal agents are reportedly taking the situation into their own hands. Over the weekend, FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began raiding warehouses, where the Puerto Rican Electric Power Authority has been "hoarding" these "critical materials" out of reach of aide workers.

According to The Intercept, FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers used their security details to break into a Palo Seco warehouse where they found hundreds of tension steel sleeves and nearly 3,000 items critical to U.S. contractors who are trying to help Puerto Rico restore power.

What is the purpose of hoarding infrastructure material after your infrastructure gets wrecked?

It defies logic.

I have limited experience with Peurto Ricans, basically in the military and on deployment with some of their units. Theft seemed to be pretty rampant with them. I don't know if I'm racist against Peurto Ricans, but I do know I don't like them taking my shit.

Well ... I don’t see how the theft was even supposed to work in this case. What was the plan? EBay that shit and then sneak it off in a boat? What are you going to tell the US when they come for it? It’s stolen? You’re on a fucking Island, so if thieves broke into the warehouse the material is still on the island.

Clearly the fraudsters didn’t think the scam through either, which is why they got armed men removing material from their warehouse.

Not sure where you are going with that. I just don't understand the idiocy of stealing the tools needed to put the infrastructure back together, which harms the entire society.

I've never been there, but what I've read it's pretty damn corrupt. I posted a story in the hurricane thread that Union Drivers on the island wouldn't deliver emergency supplies because it was there chance to sue for higher wages, something that was just turned down. So, the drivers held the entire island hostage, even if it cost lives.

If you remember the pics of all the supplies sitting on the docks, that's what that was about.
