See, your friends the Russians and Chinese have already started to elude to the escalation dominance nuclear blackmail paradigm, their proposal is that in return for a "freeze" on the North Korean nuclear program, the US and South Korea must "cease all military exercises on the Peninsula."

Not that it's a realistic proposal, because of course the Chinese and Russians don't mind if North Korea threatens the United States, more power to them say they, they don't really have an interest in solving strategic problems for the USA, they're in the business of causing strategic problems for the USA, and it's only nascent, it's not putting the screws to you at this juncture, none the less, this is how it's going to go, escalation dominance creates leverage, and the purpose of the leverage is force, it's offensive, and it's war, it's simply non linear and asymmetrical.

Again, the ultimate North Korean objective is to force the US to withdraw from the theater, and then they will employ the escalation dominance on South Korea and Japan, and whether or not that is realistic, the mere attempt to impose this outcome by escalation dominance nuclear blackmail, is a recipe for taking things to the brink, at which point, starts to get pretty dicey, by default.

The North Koreans are extremely provocative vis a vis South Korea, because they're holding Seoul hostage, methinks they're not going to get less provocative, when they're holding the CONUS hostage, rather, I submit, at that point, they will be upping the ante, to say the least.

Perhaps it will be years from now, but whenever it comes, by the time you get to the Korean Missile Crisis, the window for counterforce, short of forlorn hope existential gambit, will have long closed by then.

Another ridiculous aspect of the liberal establishment "just accept it there's nothing we can do" dogma, is how they absurdly overrate the North Korean conventional capabilites; "million man army!", "tens of thousands of guns poised to shell Seoul!"

It's utter nonsense, most North Korean troops are used as general labourers, they don't even train, the actual number of guns around Seoul is like 700, tops, the breathless exaggeration of their ramshackle conventional military as being some sort of Soviet Army, when in fact, the nuclear weapons are the only threat, the only thing the NK's have which can do any real damage, is the nukes, but nobody has the balls to take them out, cuz "ZOMG Invincible Million Man Army!".

Pathetic.

They don't have it yet and as you say, it's years from now. Not to today. Politicians are only concerned of today.

And both Mattis and Dunford has said that the casualty rates would be high. Something what we haven't seen in 60-70 years. And to any politician, that's a stopper. You argue about the liberal media getting things wrong, but those casualty estimates are the stopper here. Were for Clinton. Were for Bush. Were Obama.

And if you whine so much about the liberal media/liberals getting it wrong, how about you start with Breitbart then? From a month ago:
It was quite surprising to see White House chief strategist Steve Bannon rule out military force so definitively in a new interview with the American Prospect’s Robert Kuttner:

There’s no military solution [to North Korea’s nuclear threats], forget it. Until somebody solves the part of the equation that shows me that ten million people in Seoul don’t die in the first 30 minutes from conventional weapons, I don’t know what you’re talking about, there’s no military solution here, they got us.
That's Bannon. That's Trump's base, which he so dearly listens to, even now. Not some liberal MSM you talk about. Hence start your complaints from there because Trump won't move against his base.

Exactly, 'member that? GW1?

"10,000 AMERICAN TROOPS WILL BE KILLED!!!"

And you know what? The Iraqi Republican Guard was actually elite. The North Koreans? Not so much.

Out of "1,000,000!!!" North Korean troops, how many are actually, trained, equipped, and ready for war?

That regime wouldn't trust a million man army, most of them don't even have guns.

If the public actually grasped how ramshakle the KPAF was, and how small the actual combat capable component was?

The only question then would be "why the hell would we let this pygmy threaten us with hydrogen bombs, when we could crush them like a bug?"

The North Koreans may be dangerous, because there's no internal restraint, and they are about to acquire operational hydrogen bombs, but in terms of the military infrastructure of the KPAF writ large? It's a Potemkim Village, there's no there there.

The only thing they have, is this nuclear weapons program, they've put all their eggs in this basket, the rest of their military, is a gong show.

If the KPAF actually tried to fight the US military, conventionally? It would be Highway of Death all over again, the war would be stopped because Americans wouldn't be able to stomach the sight of charred KPAF corpses littering the countryside.

The regime would be hard to kill, but its army, not so much, which is why it would never try to use its conventional army, for this regime, it's nukes or bust,

The United States of America, is going allow this Potemkin Village to put American cities under the nuclear knife, because it's afraid of the KPAF?

All the destruction you rained down on the Iraqis, for who again? Kuwait? But when America itself is in nuclear peril? Nuthin?

Jesus H. Christ, you killed 3 million Vietnamese just to keep South Vietnam French, but you won't lift a finger to preempt a nuclear threat to the CONUS.

It's absurd.

And contrary to what Finnish faggots say, and the fringe alt right notwithstanding, it's all about the liberals and associated liberal media.

If America was still the gung-ho right wing country it used to be? The North Koreans wouldn't fuckin' dare, because even in the tense standoff in the Cold War, they would have gotten nuked for it. It's only because America is overrun with liberal panty waists, that they even think that they can get away with this.

Their whole purity spiralling routine is to just declare all military action as folly and jibber jabber on about "diplomacy" and "sanctions", which, North Korea is totally impervious to.

I don't always agree with StA, but on this he's exactly right, if an American city gets nuked by the North Koreans, it will be all the fault of the liberals and their media sycophants, commie sympathizers every one. Yeah, the lolbergs are dickheads too, but they don't run anything.

Wouldn't be so bad if only they paid for their crimes, if you could limit it to just New York and Los Angeles, I get where Nukedog is coming from with that, but the problem is, fallout kills Red States too, and if it's multimegaton yield, it fuckin' goes everywhere, strontium-90 is not partisan, and even down in your van by the river, it will get you.

If anything, Fly Over Country will get it the worst, the fallout attacks agriculture the most, the radiation will be in the fields and farms, you can kiss half those rural areas goodbye, fallout on the CONUS, would actually force rednecks to move to the cities.

Sure, it wouldn't technically be "existential", the government would survive (oh hooray), the country would not be anihilated right down to the wood, but downrange from the strike, vast swaths would be wasteland, and many of you would be refugees in your own land "internally displaced persons".

Doesn't have to be the end of the world, doesn't have to be Cormac McCathy's The Road, to make it worth preempting, when the only thing standing in the way, is the ramshackle Korean Peoples Army, which, is more of an open air labour camp than an actual army.

A nuclear threat against the United States of America, which is viably preempted before it can get off the ground? If this is not what the US military is for, then what the fuck is it for? If not now, when?

What? The Cold War at the brink was no biggie? Oh yes it fuckin' was, either you ain't remembering it right, or you weren't there. You think what you have now with the Russians is like the Cold War? Ah, no, not even close. But now you're gonna get a taste.

Yeah, the Soviets, we couldn't have preempted the Cold War, but make no mistake, if we could have, we would have.

You, the preeminent military superpower, is going back to the brink, because you wont preempt a crumbling run down Potemkin Village in North Korea? That's fuckin' ridiculous.

Me? I'm old, and I don't have kids, so I don't worry about the future, but if I was young and I had kids?

"Mr. Mattis, tear down that wall"

Lol. Last time you got pissed off to swearing was when I pointed out how many women serve in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Yet the fringe alt-right like Bannon is what Trump listens to. Bannon being against is important. Yet it's the casualty estimates that the military gives is the reason why US Presidents to be so lame on the subject. Not the MSM.

Additional reason is that at least the current South Korean administration would likely not OK a pre-emptive strike now. OPLAN 5015 covers the pre-emptive strike scenario, but I assume it's something that the US does need South Korea. Attacking North Korea without South Korea is a confusing idea especially when you have the US base structure in South Korea.

And there's China. If North Korea attacks first, China will stay neutral. If there's still the The Sino-North Korea Friendship, Cooperation, and Mutual Assistance Treaty commits China to North Korea’s defense in the event of foreign aggression. How valid that is the treaty anymore is an open question.

I'm not pissed off, I'm just drinking whiskey, and since you're safely on the otherside of the Atlantic and not lipping off like that to my face, I can't break your nose and watch you bleed on the floor, ergo, I'm just telling you; go fuck yourself.
