What Trump has demonstrated, is that within the Red vs Blue civil war, you don't actually need 60% to win, 40% wins, because that other 20% has nowhere else to go.

You don't need a majority, all you need is a plurality. The right wing of the Democrat party, is a plurality, probably greater than 40%, so ditching the Bernie Bros is a totally viable option.
