So apparently Tampa's plan to acquire Karlsson involves coaxing some other team to take Bobby Ryan's contract, because Melnyk is holding firm to that demand, if you want Karlsson, you have to take Ryan's contract, but Tampa can't fit it into their cap, so there's some mystery team they are negotiating with to take it for them.

Sounds like the Karlsson to Tampa negotiations are pretty far along tho, these sorts of things can fall apart at the last moment, still, seems plausible that this could happen by Monday.

Could actually be a similar deal to what Rutherford did in Pitt with Brassard, first Bobby Ryan gets traded to another team, someone with lots of cap room and needing to get to the cap floor, then that team retains salary, probably 50%, then they send the contract to Tampa half price, and get picks and prospects in return.

Reports are that the Bruins are in hard to get Rick Nash, which, if the Rangers get a 1st, a prospect, and a roster player, from Boston, for 34 year old Rick Nash? Boston will have gotten fleeced, because if Boston is going to win the Cup, it's not going to be Rick Nash who puts them over the top.

OFFICIAL: #NYR have acquired a first-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, defenseman Ryan Lindgren, forwards Ryan Spooner and Matt Beleskey, and a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft from the Bruins in exchange for Rick Nash.

Rangers retain 50 percent of Nash's remaining contract (UFA July 1) and Bruins in turn retain 50 percent of Beleskey contract (two more years on his deal past this season)

Bruins got fleeced, gave up even more than a 1st, a prospect, and a roster player for Nash.

Wow, that's a steep price to pay for three months of Rick Nash. Just walk away, Lou, these rental prices are ridiculous.
