Minimum Wage just went up to $11.50 in Washington State. The price of milk is $2.68 a Gallon.

Good lord, is Jedi still here blubbering on like a prat? I go out all day, I come back, and here's jedi, still blubbering. What sort of fucking job are you working, Jedi, that you can spend all day on the internet blubbering about a job which you are apparently not even doing?

Yes, and so would the people doing it, if given the choice.jediuser598 wrote:It's good, honest work.DBTrek wrote:Let us all pause for a moment and greatly respect those who pick strawberries. Truly inspiring.
You turn your nose up at it?
Picking your own strawberries is much more lucrative, and fulfilling.

Being rich with 3 doctorates < not working < volunteering/internship < part time work < minimum wage full time < full time work < owning own business.
The respect hierarchy.
The respect hierarchy.

Why don't you show more respect to the people in Africa, China, Bangladesh who work 80 hour weeks for less than 25 cents per year?jediuser598 wrote:That's fucked up though.GrumpyCatFace wrote: That's what we're talking about. People always respect hard work. But they'll never admire it.
As a person, that would make me feel bad. I couldn't sit on that. I would eventually give it up.
There's something intrinsically good in not only working hard but working smart, in pushing together with a team towards a common goal, and doing it in the best way possible. Getting the best results in the least amount of time. But with how employers are, you'd get fucked. I get it, but that kind of thinking makes me feel like a bad person. That's not virtuous.
Compared to them, you are living better than Kublai Khan. Have you ever stopped to count your blessings? Smelled the roses? Gotten off the internet? You are just a punk with a computer. I don't even own a computer or a phone.

Work ethic is something a person has. A profession does not have a work ethic, so assuming that the old woman lifting more weight than the paralegal has the better work ethic just because she does manual labor, does not make sense. Still, American work culture is very different from Danish work culture, with American work culture being more formalized and hierachical than Danish work culture, which I'd imagine affects the way people generally judge who is of lesser and greater social value. However, In no cultures can you get respect by indignantly demanding it. You'll have to find a uniquely American way for other Americans to show greater respect for whichever occupations are considered low-status, and you're pretty much guarenteed to never see the result, because the change may happen gradually over generations. Or never. I'd argue if you can't win it here, you can't win it in the real world, either.jediuser598 wrote:
Who deserves more respect? The woman who is in her 50's, 60's,70's working at a job she hates, but still putting in the time, but she's also working hard and letting no one leave her behind. She's over there leading the pack. Or the 20 year old who is working hard as a paralegal? In a job he loves.
One situation certainly hurts more.
I guess you could say the older woman, on a day to day basis, is lifting more weight, encountering more resistance, but both would be demonstrating solid work ethic which should be applauded, but the paralegal has the better deal, is there any real denying of that? But should that distinction really be made? Why not just respect the work ethic? As the paralegal looks at the woman and the other way around? Just respect the work ethic. But in our current culture? The paralegal gets respect, and the woman does not. That's what bothers me.
Bjorn, I have Okee blocked. I'll display post on his stuff sometimes just to see if he's continuing his belligerency towards me, roll my eyes then continue on about my day. If you notice, all of his posts towards me are always negative, attempting to bait me into responding to his nonsense. Not worth it.
As for Okee's posts to you being negative. I'd say blocking someone is a response to nonsense, but I assumed you read his posts since you wrote:
"You're all back there like "sucker! Work harder not smarter! Retard!" If you could see my face you'd get the expression, "seriously?" Pissing on the common man because you're so divorced from it."
Fame is not flattery. Respect is not agreement.

Jedi’s own post answers his question.BjornP wrote:

What respect do we owe the “common man”?
Basic human respect.
That’s all.
In every other way the common man is “common”, no respect earned.

I was talking to jediwhiner. Personally, I think the guy is overpaid by at lest 35%. He shows no initiative, and routinely messes up simple tasks I give him.GrumpyCatFace wrote:iPhone = Wealthy. How am I divorced by the common man again? Raised by beatniks, never had any money to speak of, high school drop out, served in the army, retired from the army, now just trying to leverage all my revenue streams so I can work for myself and not have to answer to the man.
