(Sigh) When you go to the supermarket who sells you food? Who grows that food to sell? You think they are not all heavily regulated?Okeefenokee wrote:When the can is empty, and you want a refill, who fills it?JohnDonne wrote:@ Okeefenokee
You can buy cans of gas and fill up your car at home in Oregon, just as you can buy food from the store and cook at home. My analogy stands up.

Well fat be it for me to tell Oreganers how to structure thier society. I find it amusing nonetheless. Can't let those pump jockeys become unemployed by automation.JohnDonne wrote:Im not arguing for a free market solution, just the validity of the solution we have chosen.TheReal_ND wrote:I'm not so sure the free market would see fit to employ gas jockeys either. I mean some people may find it an amusing novelty and likely subsidize this much in the same manner people subsidize the Zoo by watching monkeys at the exhibit, but realistically the market cap for pump jockeys must be low on the free market methinks.

Wait. Holy shit. Back this train up to the last station..
Please confirm: do you not have self-check out in Oregon supermarkets??

I mean..
If it were me, and I were shooting for a full-service gas station model, I would call it the MILF Station Plus and the attendants would be topless milf.
At least provide some value with the useless labor surcharge.

Ya, we have self checkouts, they replace lots of jobs, banning them remains a viable option for us if we don’t like the results.

So . . . are they dangerous?JohnDonne wrote:Ya, we have self checkouts, they replace lots of jobs, banning them remains a viable option for us if we don’t like the results.
What with those red-death scanning lasers, and automated whatsa-majiggit scales, and creepy computer push screens.
Sounds like fucking sorcery to me, man.
I'd feel better if a trained professional or twentieth level technomancer were operating it, personally.

If I only have a couple items they’re convienient. If I have a cart full of stuff I just use the human check out line, they have faster hands.DBTrek wrote:So . . . are they dangerous?JohnDonne wrote:Ya, we have self checkouts, they replace lots of jobs, banning them remains a viable option for us if we don’t like the results.

Pump jockeys don't have a "cart full." You are literally taking their back up jobs by using the self checkout aisle.
