Slows down your connection and most sites don't support it. The VPN is a superior option. The free ones are free for a reason. Tor has one thing going for it though; the onion web.

Yes they do. But most sites are bloated AF. Sites like this or most chans would still be useable. You can just turn it on when it's time to post or when you want to browse bad think sites.

Ultimately, though, even with pay ones, you're just shifting who has ultimate authority over your browsing history. There have been plenty of incidents where VPNs who "promised" they wouldn't retain your access whoops they were and also they got hit with a breach sorry!!!

The "best" solution is either a VPS (like your workplace might have... but then you're trusting your work IT department with your browsing history), or renting out server space and running your own algo instance... but that's a solution that may be waaaay too technically involved for most people.

StA's right, it's a really raw deal no matter how you slice it, and kind of why the FOSS and EFF techie hippie-dippies have been banging the drum against the centralization of the internet for so long?

There's not much you can do from your house connection.....but you could make a ghost machine - either buy a physical laptop in cash from a physical store (located far from your house) in cash wearing a wig and/or fake beard......then load up a copy of linux, break the camera and the mic, and only connect using free wifi...like at McD's. You could also make a USB/VM, but then you'd have to find a physical machine which you could reboot from each and every time.....kind of a pain in the ass...

Also, if you want some sort of privacy - don't use Windows, android, and/or MacOS......

So how long till the Government bans buying a network card in cash illegal? Or until having an "unregistered" network card get you on the no fly list?

Some fellow co-workers of mine say that actually Whats app is
pretty good secrecy, that it takes time to crack the actual
messaging.

Anybody know if this is true or not?

Use HTTPS sites, and push any site you use that does not use https to use https, usually it is just a matter of flipping a switch. The ISP will still know what websites you visit, but all of the data will be encrypted so they won't be able to see the details of what you are doing. If you only use https sites there is not a lot of info that ISPs can actually collect. They will know someone connected to a specific IP address visited a certain website, but they won't have any personally identifiable information or details about what you did at that website.
