How is a wall going to prevent someone from over-staying their visa? (Overstayed visas are our primary source of illegal immigrants.)

It's not. Other measures are needed to address that aspect of illegal immigration, no one said a wall would stop all illegal immigration into the US.

Just because one security measure doesn't solve the entire problem in one fell swoop doesn't mean it shouldn't be a part of the border security plan. If you start thinking that way, then no security measures on the border would be necessary at all, I mean if the criteria is that a single security measure has to stop all illegal immigration single handedly, then why spend even a cent on border security since it doesn't completely stop illegal immigration?

Since a majority of our illegal immigration is not via the border, I do not think it's dumb. I'm against spending billions of dollars on a half measure when spending far far less dollars will fix the problem just fine.

Meanwhile in the UK;

Six people have been arrested on suspicion of belonging to far-right group National Action. One woman from Banbury and five men from Cambridge, Banbury, Wolverhampton, Leicester and Stockport were detained .

Police said the suspects were aged between 21 and 37 and are being held on suspicion of being concerned in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

The arrests were all pre-planned and intelligence led and there was no threat to the public's safety. Five specialist counter-terrorism units were involved in the raids and investigators are continuing to search the suspects' homes....

So no border security measures because none of them single handedly fix the entire problem, that sounds like a great idea! Who needs border security if it doesn't stop all illegal immigration?
