I think the problem would be the Navy more than the Air Force. It takes a while for them to get there if they are not already in position.

I wouldn't put troops on the ground if I could help it and make it clear to China we will not be going in there if we can help it. It would likely be a massive air and naval campaign.

Cross all the t's, dot all the i's, get all their ducks in a row, and then fuck their shit up. America has that luxury and not seeing any risk in them waiting that long to do so.

Problem is, when you warm it up, you can only hold it there for a short time, the counterforce would be very complex, a lot of moving parts, and it has to be stealthy on approach, can't telegraph it, so once you're at the startline, then you have to go, both to achieve surprise, but also because you can't keep it straining at the leash.

So even if you want to wait, whenever you decide to go, you have to put it in motion to H-hour, and remember, you cant alert the NK's, so the more times you do this and then abort, the more likley they're going to get wind of it and then go operational, immediate action,

They may not have the equation solved for the hydrogen bomb to the CONUS quite yet, but there's lots of other things within range which they could hit, so when you decide to go, it's do or do not, you can't keep your ducks in a row indefinitely for a counterforce, you need to pick your window and be decisive about these sorts of operations.

How exactly is a B61 different from Neptunes Spear? Because it's more likely to succeed? You're talking about a country, not a neighborhood. Even our biggest bomb wouldn't pave the whole thing, unless we launched a spread, and kicked off WW3.
