I do know that, jokes aside, if you tried to form some kind of "union" in the American military, there are some pretty crazy federal laws that will stomp you into dust, if the NCOs haven't already killed you with deadly detail duty.

I'm on the duty roster again? I'm calling my rep, this place is like working in a sweatshop.

Altamirano: No, Señor Hontar. Thus have we made the world... thus have I made it.

Re: Another School Shooting (Wrong Narrative Though)
The question was about going to exclusively private schools. This means that instead of competing with public schools, they would be competing with each other, and I expect marketing would be a part of that competition, as it is with most private enterprises.Okeefenokee wrote:Already covered it.Hanarchy Montanarchy wrote:Depends on how much of the money you spend (and presumably I would spend, since I imagine they would still be subsidized) on your child's education you want to go to some marketing department instead of a math teacher.Speaker to Animals wrote:Wait. I have an idea. What if we closed down the government schools and just went to all private schools?
Okeefenokee wrote:The nearly uniform finding from this research is that students benefit academically when they attend private school, rather than the public school that they would otherwise have attended. Some disagreement persists about how large the private schools' impact is and about whether it affects all students or only those from particular backgrounds—but not even the harshest critics claim that attending a private school harms students.
Of particular interest to budget-strapped state and local governments is that the cost of the vouchers in these studies—and even the total tuition charged by the private schools, if it's greater than the cost of the voucher—is well below what the public schools would spend to educate the same child. For instance, economist Robert Costrell found that by paying tuition to send 18,500 public school kids to private schools, Milwaukee saved taxpayers $31.9 million in 2008.

Right now, their marketing is baked in, as in 'better than public schools.' They don't need to take out bus ads to tell people that, since it is what people already think.
HAIL!

Yeah. You really don't need a "financial advisor". Most of those guys will fuck your shit up anyway, and then still charge you for their time. Scottrade is a deep discount brokerage. You do all the research and decisions yourself. The only thing they do is make the trades you order and manage your account.
Just get a Roth IRA, man. You control it. Don't neglect precious metals.

But over the very long run, Fama was right: Almost no one who is operating honestly can maintain a persistent information edge over the millions of other smart investors who comprise “the market.”
Some research I’ve recently come upon clinches it: Fewer than 1% of mutual fund managers persistently beat the market based on superior market-timing or stock-picking skills. That’s down dramatically since the mid-1990s, suggesting either a decline in managers’ skills or a great leveling of performance because of technology, high-frequency trading, what have you.

If you limit it to mutual funds, okay. But mutual funds are a fucking scam. They are not meant to earn money for the investor. They are meant to generate lots of transaction fees over time for the managing firm. Avoid.
Actual traders beat the market all the time. Long term. No problem.
