Am I the only one amazed how effectively the democrats can make the Russians look like the good guys?

I wouldn't say amazed, once you saw the stunned reaction on election night, you knew they were going to do some hysterical shrieking and deperate grasping at straws to try to distract from their utter humiliation and the fact that their agenda was totally rejected in the swing states, none the less, the Democrats suddenly fronting like they were the Stalwart Bulwark against Mr. Ivan all along, after they ridiculed anybody and everybody who dissented from their narrative that Russia was no threat at all, definitely causes some whiplash, still, it's going to be fun watching them hoist themselves on this petard.

I mean, talk about flailing, they've gone from "Russia? Pfft, Russia" to "ZOMG Russia!!!", in the space of one election night, lol.

It's not a Russian defense group as much as it's a plan B if the UN won't go along.

NATO is the only way the US can have it's Western allies do something coherently together. Without it, likely there wouldn't be even that.

Just how uniform and cooperative are the US allies in the Far East, to give an example. South Korea, Japan, Australia, Phillipines, Thailand... not such integration as with NATO countries.

America doesn't have many actual allies in NATO, it's almost all dependants, the British and French are the only allies of any real use to America in NATO, and even they can't do anything without being a drain on US resources rather than bolstering, if America really needed to fight a war, it would be better off fighting it unilaterally, without the deadweight of the NATO albatross around its neck.

Americas NATO "allies" are about as usefull to America in an actual shooting war, as the Austro-Hungarian's were to the Germans in the First World War; deadweight that is more trouble than its worth.

Two hundred years ago, we had statesmen advising the populace not to go rushing off into every little war that pops up, and today, in the most peaceful period in human history, you're arguing the world's gonna end if we don't let the president wage war unilaterally through his holy scepter, NATO.

The myth of NATO interoperablity, it was never thus, CENTAG was like three army's, two US Corps and the BAOR, the Bundeswehr, and then a third army of odds and sods milling about and getting in the way, it was never one big army, it was a clusterfuck all day everyday, the only reason we would have whupped the Soviets, is that the two US Corps were fuckin' Monsters, the British could be a blocking force on the northern route, and the Germans would be cannon fodder to act as a screen for the Big Dogs, everybody else was going to be spectators.

The real NATO CENTAG was America, Britain, and West Germany, everybody else was just going to get in the way, too many cooks in the kitchen, doesn't make you stronger.

For example if you had let's say in 2011 in Afghanistan 90 000 troops, you had 37 000 NATO troops there also. That's 29%.
That 37 000 is a lot better than just 13 700 troops (the UK & French contingent).
