Russia willing to go to blows with the US over Syria? Russian planes stand no chance against 22 and 35s - but their SAM missile tech is formidable....but can Russian SAMs see the 22? Me thinks the Russians would get their ass handed to them in a non-nuclear conflict....

Also, could Russia even afford to sustain a prolonged non-nuclear conflict? All US has to do is pay off the Saudi's to flood the oil market and/or pump tons of shale.....

Saudi already saturated the market. Exxon will not frack at less than 80-90 a barrel. They will barely man an offshore rig for that.

No - you don't understand - US bribes domestic shale producers and Saudis to make oil sub $30/barrel until Russia cries Uncle... Saudi's hate Iran who is allied with Russia...

Not even sure the US could convince Exxon to bleed money like that. How much would that cost in this fantasy scenario?

Not sure - But I suspect Uncle Sam could make it worth their while.

What's more expensive sustained non-nuclear conflict with the Ruskies? or pulling the plug on their oil based economy....

They can't do it with their planes - it would have to be SAMs....and I'm not sure their SAMs can see our latest drones and fighters - but then again - the DoD may not want to give the Russians a chance to see our best tech in action.
