They don't get paid as much as American troops.

Base pay is like $1500/month to start.

On the other hand they don't need much money where they are based.

You do get bonuses as well, overseas pay, danger pay, etc.

Mostly the guys I knew just partied, the money was for booze and cigarettes and hookers.

You're in Africa, with your overseas and danger pay you're making like $2500/ month.

Then you go on leave in Africa, with Euros, so everything is cheap.

It's not the SF Q Course. It's not SOF. It's not the SAS

It's infantry. You don't have to be a super soldier on day one.

They build you up, they need recruits, they're not out to fail you.

They need guys, they will do everything they can to help you pass.

Again, it's not jail, you're all brothers, that's the esprit de corps, so your battle buddies will help you too.

To prepare for the Legion boot camp, basically just run in combat boots. 2 miles in 15 minutes.

And chin ups. As many chin ups as you can, as often as you can.

Do 15 chin ups and run 2 miles in 15 minutes in combat boots, then nothing will be too hard at boot camp.

Just follow the instructions. They are big on that. They don't like free lancing. They don't like smart asses.

Just do exactly what they tell you to do, as fast and accurately as you can, don't get cute.

Take care of your feet, blisters is what breaks most guys.

Run three to five miles each day with combat boots, pants, and t-shirt. Carry a pack a few times per week and try to increase the number of days you run with a load. Slowly increase the weight you carry.

Really, you could just get one of those apps from the Marines or whatever to prepare candidates for their training programs and just follow that.
