It's just a bear, and ones like he killed are dangerous nuisances. Most bear attacks on humans are by ones like t H at, creeping around camp sites, living out of dumpsters, and unafraid of humans.

Shooting the bear doesn't somehow automatically guarantee a cleaner kill, man. Did you see that spearhead he was using? It was just shit luck that he gutted the bear. He could have done the same with a rifle.
