That sort of thing is going on quite a bit with colleges now as well. The old practice of safety schools might be falling by the wayside (though nowadays with common app people apply to 10+ universities anyway) since they reject clearly overqualified people. After all, why offer the spot to someone who most likely won't actually take it?Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Tue May 29, 2018 7:13 pmAlso, only list educational credentials commensurate with the job for which you are applying. If you are applying for a the basic software engineering job, for example, list your bachelor's degree and maybe your master's degree, but definitely never volunteer that you have a PhD if you have one. If you are that same guy and life is tough, so you submit a resume for an IT job, then don't necessarily divulge even the master's degree unless it's pertinent to the job.
I have seen LOTS of resumes get trashed in engineering meetings because the person was "over-qualified". But the reality is that the people making the decision are threatened by it. You have to not pose an obvious threat to the people making the decision, and often input comes from the entire team.
I think people would be really surprised at how frivolous hiring practices actually are if we were to somehow aggregate the decision data. It's mostly based on who you know and whether you are a threat to the people making the decision. Your qualifications come after those two things.
Most of the time, you should know that your resume was rejected because they hired the friend of somebody who was on the team and the team member could vouch for the person, so you were not selected. That's probably 95% of the time since most jobs are filled by connections. After that, it's the qualifications, but if you are too qualified, you are out.

In a move that is sure to anger President Trump, the NFL's two-month old national anthem policy is on hold.
As a reminder, back in May the NFL passed a rule that forbid players from sitting or taking a knee if they are on the field or sidelines during "The Star-Spangled Banner," but allowed them to stay in the locker room if they wish. The policy said teams would be fined if players didn't stand during the anthem while on the field. The league left it up to teams on how to punish players.
"The NFL and NFLPA, through recent discussions, have been working on a resolution to the anthem issue. In order to allow this constructive dialogue to continue, we have come to a standstill agreement on the NFLPA's grievance and on the NFL's anthem policy. No new rules relating to the anthem will be issued or enforced for the next several weeks while these confidential discussions are ongoing."

I aspire to professional football where the state worship occurs before the game -- in fact before the players take the field before the actual kickoff (and well after the warm-up). It has always worked pretty well that way in the college game, and used to be great in the NFL as well (in my half-century of experience).
Anyway, maybe Vince McMahon can figure all that stuff out this time around.
There are *plenty* of decent football players available for whatever the fans and ownership want to see.
Just imagine how good the game would be for fans if there was a real free market in place for players vs. owners and owners vs. players.
How about if players could negotiate a contract from week to week during the season/playoffs? Or even from the first half to the second half? Do you think that ownership would start to take more seriously the input from the paying fans; as opposed to just counting up the contracts they get from the league and the AIDS-infested networks?

What the hell is this? This involves the Ebersole's and former players. This was the partner to Vince McMahon for the XFL the first time around. I'd be weary of this. This looks like a stalking horse to take players away from an XFL and be rewarded with NFL jobs when they blow it up.C-Mag wrote: ↑Fri Jul 20, 2018 4:44 pmVince isn't the only one that smells blood in the water.Fife wrote: ↑Fri Jul 20, 2018 3:19 pmIt's ground zero for the culture war, if you think about it.Speaker to Animals wrote: ↑Fri Jul 20, 2018 11:01 amWho's the NFL? Re: NFL Flips on Anthem (Again)
We got a memo with this opening paragraph....
As we head into the 2018 football season, we want to provide all league employees with the information and tools to communicate about one of the league’s top priorities, our Social Justice Initiative. This summary is intended to be an ongoing resource for you as you engage with internal and external stakeholders about the efforts the NFL and players are making together to improve our communities.
I'd post the whole thing but that's probably against the rules and I don't want to risk my job

Re: NFL Flips on Anthem (Again)
NP, thanks for the tip on the letter.
I think what's going to really hurt the NFL from here on out is there indecisiveness and inability to stick to a position...……….. they just look weak. It's going to cost Goodell his job eventually. I don't know what to make of the guy, but he seems like a Yes Man who tries to please everyone.
I gotta think employees have to be very frustrated no matter their personal believes and gotta just be hoping for a solid position so they can move on.
