Re: President for Life
I'm getting married at the end of this month. Going to Vegas. Pink Cadillac in the Elvis Chapel's tunnel of love. Classy, classy shit.
We're doing it this way out of necessity (Canadian immigration), and we plan to have a real wedding in the next year for families and all of that, but I'm sharing a lot of the concerns and anxieties presented in the last couple posts. I feel like this is right and the obstructions in our way to being with one another are just minor inconveniences.
That being said, we've decided to keep our finances somewhat separate in an attempt to keep things simple and avoid future headaches. We're equal partners who are paying for almost everything jointly, including the fees associated with immigration.
Shit's nerve wracking, but I know in my heart it's right. And if it's not, well... Starter marriage with dual citizenship as a perk.

Congratulations, and welcome to America. Now erase this post before StA and Nuke start hunting you down as a border jumper.DPM17 wrote:I'm getting married at the end of this month. Going to Vegas. Pink Cadillac in the Elvis Chapel's tunnel of love. Classy, classy shit.

Oh, and news flash, guys, that's exactly how most females approach marriage.
They marry and divorce for resources and security.
Women predominantly marry men who earn more than them, they are the primary initiators of divorce, the entire divorce system is built to profit them, and they are most likely to divorce when the man gets laid off or becomes disabled. I do believe they even manage to convince themselves they are doing it for "reasons", but the reality is right there in the statistics: money.

Keeping your finances separate is a guaranteed path to divorce.DPM17 wrote:I'm getting married at the end of this month. Going to Vegas. Pink Cadillac in the Elvis Chapel's tunnel of love. Classy, classy shit.

If there's no trust, there's no marriage, really. It's just two people cohabiting with a piece of paper. In my marriage, there's not a lot of his and mine, except for the chocolate.Okeefenokee wrote:
