Re: Current US Military
The militia thing will never happen unless there is a complete collapse of the government. So, it's just one of my personal memes.
Step one is extracting ourselves as global police. Then reduce the military, go back to the expansable Army, and stop spending money on stupid shit, like changing uniforms every couple years.

We're not going to descend into Walking Dead, people will still follow The Law. The 0.01% will leverage The Law to their benefit, as always, and State judges will have to enforce it or NOT. Washington ELECTS its judges. Democracy will be the weapon, not firearms.DBTrek wrote:Anyone taking bets on who would win a war between an army of soldiers and an army of lawyers? Well, if you can't get here on time, at least you made to the right place.Martin Hash wrote:Russ Roberts' "EconTalk" podcast today talks about entitlements vs. military spending. I was not aware that entitlements are now 2/3rds of the U.S. budget while military spending is 15%.
It seems pretty bleak. You're going have to elect me Czar for a few years so I can straighten this shit out.
Don't feel bad. Grumps STILL thinks the military is where all the money goes.
Whatcha gon' do bout gubmint schools?

I know you are supposed to be an accountant but dude when was the last time you did some accounting bro?Martin Hash wrote:Read the 10 steps in the back of my book, "The Center," for how to get out of this.
Here's a hint: there's less than 200 super-wealthy families, and only 0.01% of the population own 50% of the wealth. We can make 99.9% of Americans okay without much problem. Just have to fight the private armies of the 0.01%

Why do Republicans always confuse accounting with economics?

While I agree the very top bracket could easily pay far more in taxes without losing any amount of quality of life, I still don't think there are enough them, and not enough of their money, to make much of a dent in our expenditures.
A lot of this stuff we need to pay for ourselves. Universal healthcare, for instance, should be paid for by the participants, not "the rich". People need to have a solid stake in these programs, and the way the democrats frame it, the majority will have zero stake in it. It's easy to vote for somebody else to go fight your wars, or somebody else to pay for all your cool services, but at some point the game is up. There's just not going to be more money to plunder.

As long as production > consumption, there is always enough money, simply “print” it. If you claim we are disincentivizing production, okay, that’s bad.
